Lefty SS Police w/Boye dent???

I am trying to locate a left-handed stainless-steel Police model with the Boye dent. I have been told that Spyderco stopped producing left-handed Police models before the Boye modification and that therefore there is no such thing as a stainless steel left-handed Police with the dent.

True or false? Does such a knife exist? Is it currently produced, or discontinued?

I don't get it.. why would it matter if it was lefthanded or not? for that matter, how to you make a left handed police? its a lockback, and the thumbhole works with either hand..

The location of the clip changes the orientation of the thumb hole when it is clipped. Like a left-hander wearing a right-handed holster on his left hip--he would either have to cross-draw right-handed (not the desired outcome) or rotate his left wrist and hand 180 degrees from the natural position to draw backwards with his left hand (also not desired). He could "shoot it with either hand" like he could open the knife with either hand, but there is a difference.

So, does Spyderco make this knife???

I have seen the leftie police, SS scales... The one I saw did not have the dent, but you could add one with a dremel.

There is no mention of a lefty Police in the current catalog. Any skilled gunsmith could mount the clip on the opposite side, however.

the last real mention of the leftie is in the '98 book. I don't have the '99, so I can't tell yah about that one though.

I've got an SS lefty Police (C07SL) at home. What should I be looking for? I don't know what a Boye dent is. Which should probably be embarassing since I own about 10 Spydies.

Codeman,

If by chance, you might like for your "Lefty" Police to have a new home (I'm Left-handed), I have a REKAT Sifu that I'd be willing to trade for it.:).

Well, it doesn't prove anything, but mine does not have the dent.

I bought mine in late 1998 from mjsknives. If I remember correctly, it had already been discontinued then.

Sorry, Glockman99, I too am a lefty, so I don't want to part with it. I was tempted by the Sifu - I wanted to buy one of the ones BF sold way back when. If only it had been ambi...

Good luck finding one.

Codeman,

The REKAT Sifu that I offered has been converted to "Lefty" by having the pocket-clip moved to the other side. Are you SURE that you don't want to trade?.:D.

Hi IamMatt. I believe you are correct in your assumption that the left hand model was discontinued before the David Boye indent was added to the model. I would suggest that you find an old lefty Police and add the indent. This can be done (slowly) with a grinder, Dremel of ?. The lockbar is heat treated so care must be taken not to get the steel too hot to re temper the locking bar.

One other detail on the LH Police model was the bevel on the serrated version was ground on the opposite side from the RH version. It was a true "mirror image" of the RH Police. This wasn't a factor with the plain version since the grind was a double bevel. I sold my last one sometime in 2000. They were DC'd in the '99 catalog.

I was at a gun/knife show in Oregon were this guy said he could get a lefty Police model but the price was $150, which was more then I wanted to spend. So they are still some out there just overly priced. I went with a Massad Ayoob model (which has tip down clip holes fro left carry) for left carry and the Police for right carry.

Personally I would not worry about putting a dent on the blade even though my has it, its not a big deal if you handle the folder correctly. If you really want the dent then this is a good excuse to buy another one :D
