I thought it was over with CRK. I bought a Large 21 with Micarta and sent it in to be fitted with an optional regular blade. It's been there since beginning of June. I kind of lost interest and knife-wise moved on. Then I just bought a small (used) 21 Tanto and all the passion that originally was there, came back. A week later, a used lefty Umnumzaan appeared on the Exchange( I need to stop looking:rolleyes:) and used lefty CRKs don't grow on trees. Bought it and just got it.

I like big tactical knives, and this one is now called "The Beast." Tactically speaking, you can use the Umnumzaan in SD situations without opening it. Need to practice opening it, but the action is smooth and relatively quiet. It seems like a lot of Umnumzaan owners prefer the the original pivot, but this will be well used and not collected. Finally, I just like the way that even the most experienced members here go easy on newbys like myself. There's just something special about CRK that has to be experienced to be appreciated.

Great catch!. I really love the Umnumzaan deployment system. It works great and the knife is wicked looking and robust. Strangely enough I would love to see the Umnumzaan style of deployment on a more muted-looking Sebenza-ish folder, to make it a little less tactical looking for use in public, but then again, why mess with perfection?

As usual, your assessments are spot-on. I wanted this one to be uber tactical for my CC.

I strongly prefer the original pivot, but honestly it's just looks. The new pivot is more practical - no odd tools needed to strip down or adjust the knife.

You must have a lemon, though - or you need new O-rings. Both of mine are absolutely silent. :D

No lemon. It's very quiet.

You can get a Regular style blade put on a 21? I can't find this on the price or service list.
CRK will allow you to buy the additional, regular blade. If you originally bought an Insingo with Black Micarta Inlay(large or small). That's partly why I bought that configuration. It's like having your cake and etc. If you have that set up, call CRK and speak to Angela. The extra blade is $135.+ shipping.

Sometimes I will spin/rotate the o rings to keep from compressing the same areas for too long. Seems to help keep it nice and quiet.

On a side note, the Micarta insingo optional blade setup is pretty neat to know.
Thanks OP

I bought my first Zaan in the RH model, never could get it to open with my left hand unless I peeled the skin off my thumb. Needless to say I had to get rid of it. Being in the same boat as you, I had to wait for a LH Zaan to come along. Now, it is the only CRK I've had to buy in the LH version, I love it. Like you I'm sure, I prefer a LH CRK, but don't really need one as long as it has double lugs. I've since scored several CRK's that are LH and am a happy camper. :)
Got these at Wilson Combat:

They're beautiful. One surprise to me with a lefty is how accustomed I am to right handed opening. Actually have to re-build my muscle memory with the lefty.

Good tip lockster30, on rotating the o rings. Thanks.

Try a hardware store for more orings also; dirt cheap, and some are slightly thicker than others, even in the same size, which will allow it to open and close totally silently.

Lay a few out and you'll see what I mean. Then pick out 10 or so and for about $2.30 you'll have orings for years.

Lastly, yes, the lefty Zaan is one of my favorites also. It and my micarta 25 are my favorites of my 7 CRKs by far.

So I guess it's ok to admit I just ordered a bunch of multi colored o rings, including(gasp!) glow in the dark from bodyartforms. Why I would want my stealthy SD blade to glow in the dark escapes me. Thanks for all o ring and other tips. They're most welcome.
