Lefty using a right handed Sebenza...no big deal?

Hi,

As I have stated in a earlier post, I am a lefty and would love to purchase a small Sebenza, but the left handed models are hard to find, unless it is ordered. So I was just wondering if its really much of any issue for a lefty
to use the standard right handed Sebenza and be perfectly comfortable doing so? Should I just purchased the regular small Sebenza, or place an order for a left handed model and waiting up to 8 months?!

I would like to hear from all the lefties here that currently own a standard right handed small Sebenza...are you perfectly comfortable with it? I could care less about the whole flicking it open thing!

Thanks

I have a number of Left Handed Sebenzas which i prefer to carry. Today I have in my right pocket a small Seb. Tanto with double lugs which I can open and close easily with my right hand and transfer to the left to use it; I can also use the left hand to open it but need to close it two handed if using my left hand.
I ordered a Lefty Sebenza 25 from CRK and was told of an eight months wait, then I found one i think at New Graham and got it, of course I also told Heather to please cancel my order and she understood.
Because I prefer to have them in my left pocket I prefer the lefties but double lugs are functional to open left handed.
If you keep looking at authorized dealers, I'm sure a lefty will come up in less than 8 month possibly plain or with micarta inlays.

For me it's an issue. I would wait if I were you. Nothing beats a dedicated left hand folder from CRK!
CRK only requires payment when the knife is ready to ship.

I'm a lefty and none of my knives are leftys including my small 21. I prefer to carry my Seb in my right pocket & open it with my right hand. Believe it or not I can open a knife quicker & easier with my right than my left. I just transfer hands after opening. I am a freak of sorts I guess. I can't explain this other than my parents taught me to golf right handed when I was a little kid. Because of that I can't bat right handed either.

You don't need to pay until your order is ready, i found a large lh Sebenza 21 with micarta inlays last week. I agree with Scott Dog is worth waiting for a dedicated left handed but no need to wait 8 months.
In fact, once i tried the lefties that is all i carry excpt for the one small tanto.

I have never had any problems opening the Sebenza or Umnumzaan with my left or right hand. The manipulation of the lock to close the knife is easier on a dedicated left hand knife though. :)

I'm a rightie and I occasionally carry a knife in my left pocket just to get practice using it off-hand should the need arise. With the way Sebenzas hold their value (even when used) you could always go with the rightie for now and then sell it once your leftie is ready.

I'm a lefty and picked up a lrg. lefty Insingo from KSF and love it. I can open it with my right hand if I need to but it is awkward. If you get a righty, see if you can find one with dual thumb studs. As I stated in another thread, I feel the standard lockbar configuration is actually better suited for lefties. I only decided to get a full lefty for the novelty of it, never had a dedicated lefty tool before.

Most all my sebenza's have double lugs. I can use either hand to open with. There is not much cut out on a right handed CRK for a lefty which makes it more challenging when the knife is new. Once it's broken in and smooth it's easy to operate a RH sebenza for me. I do love my left handed Sebenza's. I have found left handed CRK's at several dealers. On the evil bay, there are authorized dealers with left handed models
I really don't have a preference either way as long as it has double lugs

Would be nice to be ambidextrous..Then I would have a Sebenza for both hands :)

I got nothin as far as the original question though..I'm right handed, but don't think I could do a lefty knife.

Well, since I want a left small Sebenza Insingo with carbon fiber, I guess my only option is to place an order! It will be a VERY hard configuration to find.

You can't get a carbon fiber model directly from CRK. You will have to go through the dealer that has the exclusive on them. Blade HQ or Knifeart. I have tried ordering a CF seb through both of them and neither have been of any help really.

I own lefty CRKs but my other TI frame locks are all right handed and do not prove to cause any type of issues.

Personally, I'd order a lefty CRK and get by with a Spyderco until it's ready. Lefty goods are hard, or impossible to come by so why not take advantage of it and order a lefty.

Don't settle when as lefties, we have to settle more often than not.

I also wanted a small CF insingo and KnifeArt said it would be at least 4 months before they got more, and they only do regular Sebenza's for leftys. Your SOL on that, unless you buy the CF Sebenza and a seperate Insingo blade.
