Is there such a thing as, like, a knife holder that attaches to your leg (thigh I suppose). Okay, this probably sounds totally dorky, but if anyone knows about a special holder for attaching knives to your leg, I guess, maybe you could tell me about it or gimme a link to a website or something. Okie doke. Thanks a bunch..

Don't worry, there's been far worse questions asked.

If you mean a sheath that attaches to your belt and has leg tiedowns to stop it flapping around, then there are plenty which come with knives, or you could contact several of the custom sheathmakers on the forums. It's also not all that hard (depending on the sheath), to add your own tiedowns.

However, if you want a sheath that is attaced to the leg alone, that's a whole different beast. The straps would have to be quite tight, especially if it was a large blade. I'm sure it can be done, and you're sure to get all the answers you want and more on here.

Welcome to the forums!!

Your request is a valid one but before a good answer can be given, more information is needed. I gather that you are of the feminine gender by your user name. Would this sheath hold a knife concealed (as under a dress) or visible (as over slacks or jeans) ? Would it be worn with butt of knife up or down ? What would over all length be ? A sheath can be made for all of these conditions but for what purpose ? It is difficult to find a better carry position than a belt mount which affords many options.

Divers use leg sheaths at the calf all the time. Problem with the thigh is that if you make the sheath straps tight enough to stay up, it will cut off your circulation.

The way I've seen this done is with a sheath that has a long belt loop such that the weight of the sheath/knife actually hangs from your belt, but it ends up positioned at mid thigh with two sets of straps (upper and lower) coming off the sheath to secure it to your leg. Think of it as a really low belt carry. The belt actually carries the weight so the straps that hold the sheath to your thigh don't have to be so tight.

Thanks for your help. I'm sure this sheath (I don't know why I said scabbard), is totally impractical. It's just a matter of looks I guess, heh. So do you know any sheath makers or sheath maker websites?

to all you cat lovers...does the tail get in the way?

I've seen a "system" in police supply/mil surplus catalog that was made to attach to the calf, and adapt to any sort of sheath/holster for gun, knife, pepper spray, etc. I will look around & see if I can locate it.

Frank Sigman makes the best military style kydex sheaths out there. He offers them with the option of lower thigh carry. They still attach to the belt but you also get a thigh strap that wraps around your thigh to help hold it in place.

I wear one of his Land Sea Air Carry System(L.S.A.C.S.) sheaths when I go on SAR calls. The sheath rides low on my thigh. It is a knife sheath with 6 accessory pockets that literally wraps around my thigh. Very well made, designed, and expensive. Worth every penny.

I beleive that Frank can also custom make sheaths for calf carry.

knife iggy, I think Brigade Quartermasters use to sell a version of what you are looking for. I believe it was called a Neal strap. Just checked and they have in on clearance. Go to www.actiongear.com and do a search on Neal. It isn't actually a sheath itself but a strap system that allows you to use your exsisting sheath as a thigh sheath. It was unclear to me from the website if they still had these in stock so you might want to call.
