Leg straps? advice...

Hi. I've taken to wearing blades strapped to my calves. Currently, I'm using two rubber straps from a cheapo diving knife I got a while ago. It works quite well, and very comfortably, even for large blades. Two questions:

1) What material, and what width works best for leg straps? The ones I'm using now are about 1/2 wide, but would wider straps be more comfortable? Also, how would a non-stretchy material, like nylon with velcro work? Is rubber or stretchy material better for this application?

2) Where can I get JUST leg straps, without buying another knife?

Thanks!

You can always go the "Dirty Harry" route, and use tape....

Better shave yer legs first, though.

call up SOE, they have leg straps made from nylon with fastex buckles, ive been meaning to get a few for my D-9s
I think theyre like $5 so you wont be out a ton of cash if they arent right for you.

Many "outdoorsy" or even hardware stores sell nylon webbing in various lengths and colors. For my leg straps, I just went down to a local camping/canoeing store, picked up some 1.5 inch black nylon webbing and a couple spare fastex buckles (you can find these in the tent/backpack repair section). I'm sure I paid less than $5 for the whole 2-strap set-up...

seems like a really inconvenient place to keep one...

Gotta bend or squat to get at it, you lose your balance, the straps have a tendency to slip...

IMO... high coolness factor, low practicality. Kinda like John Jay Rambo, barechested, firing the M-60 one handed being indicative of the US Special Forces Program.

Melancholy: Calves are the only place available for me for concealed. Shirt is tucked into long pants. I'd rather have a blade with me than not at all. It's really not that difficult to get to, either. I carry tip-up, so I release the button snap, and the blade drops right into my hand. :D

And the RUBBER straps that I have now do NOT slip at all. Actually, I think I'm just going to get more of those. The other thing that's a concern, is when you have straps on your calves, the buckles get a bit uncomfortable after a while. They start to dig in. And these rubber straps have rubber between the buckle and my leg, so any other sort of setup would probably be worse! Thanks for your suggestions, but I think I'm going to stick with the rubber.

I use nylon webbing in my leg rigs. Here's some pics of one that I made:

This rig is designed for use when you are on the ground and someone is on top of you. You reach over and pull sideways (not downwards)
