hi, I would like to make my own straps to attach my fixed blade to my:
(1)calf / thigh; and
(2)pfd / backpack shoulder harness.
Can someone offer me some help/advice as to how I can make them, as well as the following concerns:
(a) what is the best material for the straps?
(b) should they be velcro fastened or buckle (plastic snap-in or otherwise?)?
(c) any instructions on how to make them?
(d) alternatively, where can I get reasonably priced ready-made stuff

thanks!

I would suggest rubber for any calf or leg straps. They won't slip as easy. For PFD, I would go with nylon webbing. Use velcro only if you want your knife to disappear after a short time. Buckles. I can't tell you how to make them without being there, but it should not be hard with some experimenting.

Brigade quatermasters sells something that may work.

Oh boy...I'm an expert on this! :D

I use rubber straps from a cheapo diving knife for my Strider BT on my calf, and it works PERFECTLY. They have buckles, and don't slip at all. Best of all, they're cheap, and you get also get a knife with them that you can abuse with no worries! :D Go to www.bingshop.com and look for "diving knife" They're only about $12-14.

My Extrema Ratio actually came with a leg strap and a drop-leg attachment, and its made of nylon webbing with velcro. I've used the rubber straps with this blade as well, and they work perfectly for calf-carry.

The system the magician showed looks cool: I may get one.

However, I think either of these options look best:

P.S.: These "knife wraps" DO fit an ASP baton, if you wanted to know!

Good luck!
