Leg Straps?

Hi. I've taken to wearing blades strapped to my calves. Currently, I'm using two rubber straps from a cheapo diving knife I got a while ago. It works quite well, and very comfortably, even for large blades. Two questions:

1) What material, and what width works best for leg straps? The ones I'm using now are about 1/2 wide, but would wider straps be more comfortable? Also, how would a non-stretchy material, like nylon with velcro work? Is rubber or stretchy material better for this application?

2) Where can I get JUST leg straps, without buying another knife?

Thanks!

OK, the guilt to help answer the question properly is unbearable - although I really had to think about doing it.

Depends on what you are doing when the knives are strapped on. Are you mostly walking, or climbing, or diving, or....?

Generally, 3/4" to 1" would be more comfortable.

Shop around at www.blackhawkindustries.com for an assortment of straps, buckles, fasteners, gear keepers, etc.

Dude...are you talking about every day carry? Doesn't that make it a little difficult to get to? Interesting...whatever works for you...

As for material, I would think something in neoprene (wetsuit material) would be good if you could find a neoprene strap to suit your needs. And yes, the wider the strap the more comfortable it will be. Compare tying string taut around your calf to something wider. Then again, how wide you go will be limited by whatever knife you're carrying...what knife are you carrying? Stretchy's probably better since your calf will expand and contract as you walk. Hope that helps.

Z; Strider BT, yes everyday. (Well, when I'm wearing long pants!) Actually quite comfortable. Not the best for quick access of course, but it's only for occasional use anyway.

People: PLEASE post links or give specific places where I could get these items if you can!

Shane: Checked blackhawk, and they have some cool stuff I'll look into. Emailed them too. Thanks!

Ghibli, thanks for the links! Now I have a questions for you or anyone else with experience with titanium folders. There appeared to be three different models available although two looked very similar. My first question is about the info on the "specially formulated" Ocean Masters titanium. Is this marketing hype b.s. or is it really better? If it is better, is it worth the extra cost ($40 vs $65)? Next question, the first knife listed had as manufacturer miscellaneous. The second manufacture is Comp. I'm not a diver, just interested in a corrosion free folder for swimming and fishing in saltwater. How do these cut and take an edge compared to the 316 stainless used in a lot of diving knives? Thanks in advance for any info!

I think all of them are coming from the same manufacturer in Taiwan.

I am not sure about the "specially formulated" part as I have read from somewhere that Ocan Master used Mission Knives' description of the latter's titanium alloy in their ads. while Mission Knives claim that their titanium alloy is the "real deal".
