I just saw a comment over on the BCCI FB forum that there will be no Legacy Knives in 2025. Since Special Factory Orders that we saw in the past for Bass Pro, Cabelas, SMKW, and Copper&Clad etc. have also been pretty much discontinued. I guess that leaves BOTM's. Fortunately for me, there are still plenty of older Customs I havn't found yet.

I personally feel the hey day of Buck collecting is behind us. Unfortunately.

I don’t remember when the custom shop was truly custom. That was truly the hey day.

When I first started collecting Bucks, I would check the web specials page daily and find cool runs.

Now it’s just weird folders with ceracote and small T shirts.

C&C were great, SK was awesome. He participated here and would place large orders. He had great taste. It was fun.

Maybe it’s just me.

I figured they would do this. If Buck issues the very successful BOTM, Online Web Specials, & Web Exclusives they can charge what they want and keep all the profits. They don't have to share profits with Wholesalers, distributers, or Dealers, effectively cutting out all or most of the middle Men. It is working for them, they are making less inventory and making their own profit margin grow. I don't like it, because if you are not at home on your computer when they drop you don't get to buy one! It also helps the resellers as the buy them up and jack the price.

Like Roger said above, I don't buy hardly anything direct from Buck any more, I look mostly for the older knives. Too each his own, buy what you like, the hunt is half the fun anyway!

Nope.

It's not just you.

Change has come. A lot of the fun is gone.

Yogi Berra would say, "Nothing ain't what it used to be."

Yes, the web specials page turned a corner a while back.
One theory is that sharp-eyed bean counters have shown the bosses some new ways to save money and increase profits here and there and operate with greater efficiency.

Maybe greater efficiency means an end to leftover blades forgotten and languishing for years in dusty corners--so those cool buildouts become fewer and fewer.

And, of course, time marches on and we get older and the younger buyers buy different things.

Like "weird folders with ceracote and small T shirts."

Buck is just trying to stay in business.

I did find a place to put the new Buck 301 with ebony/brass on "notify" - not a pre-order, but a notification of stocking. Not sure if they are a Blade Forums approved advertiser though. OH

The legacy collection was a shockingly expensive group of knives that didn't seem all that special.... I mean I'm kinda new to this but there's no way that can be sustainable.

The BOTM and the special runs like the Larrin are exciting. The new release stockman knives for this year with real wood and brass are awesome.

The product line is always showing new neat things but continuing to keep the bread and butter favorites. You can order cool versions of different knives with various handle materials and steels if you want.

What new knives are you trying to to collect that are not around? What is missing? I'm curious.

Edit: this reply seems a bit confrontational and it's not intended that way. I am genuinely curious because Buck is one of the only companies I'm actually excited about right now, and it sounds like it used to be much more?

I hope the discontinuing of the legacy knives (if this turns out to be true) means buck will build Limited Editions; botm, Stealth, We Are Knife Makers. Doing actual limited runs of 500 or preferably less.

Unlike what the Legacy Knives turned into - making as many as you want to order all year long. Quantity made unknown. Not limited in my opinion.
