For a good part of this year, I've been enjoying participating in the creation of knife #1 in Mastersmith John White's Legacy Series. This series of five numbered, all Damascus, ivory handled knives, are designed to showcase John's skills, provide a canvas for some of today's best engravers, and to be displayed in unique ways.
Working with John as knifemaker, Joe Mason as engraver, Jim Cooper as documenting photographer, and finally Marvin Huey as presentation casemaker, has given me months of excitement, and now it has all come together. I wanted to share it with my friends.
Here's Coop's official photograph, showing details of John's and Joe's work
Here's a photo by Chuck Ward, showing Marvin Huey's "French-English" fitted, Morocco leather Borchardt style case.
Here's Chuck's picture when #1 won Best Art Knife in little Rock this spring.
All five knives in this series were sold out within 24 hours of the first offering. John's now working with the collector of Series #2, and they've chosen Brian Hochstrat as the engraver. I can't wait to see it come together like mine has done.
