Pending final word from the professionals, right now we have to stop the porno in this forum. Yes, yes, I know it's a pain but we can't take the liability risk.

Yes, I know, it's the responsibility of parents to control their kids and such, but this is the same country that gave us the McDonald's coffee lawsuit and such.

Spark, any idea if it will be OK to post whatever someone wants once the software allows for a password protected forum? I would think that that would be alright, but I am not a lawyer.
 
One of the legal issues that is being looked is that "What brings people to this site". The situation is that if you bring a person to a site under the guise of knife discussion and then they happen upon a forum like this, regardless of wether they paid or wether it is password protected, are we (or more or less is 12 Bravo Marketing) liable.

Sure if you go to www.freepussy.com you can expect to see porn. If you go to www.killacommieformymommy.com you can expect to see things of that nature. But when you go to BFC are you looking for porn or such and what happens when you see it.

It is a huge grey area and in my opinion it probably is not worth the headache.
 
Mike "Dumbass" Turber has a good point there, ethically as well as legally. It wouldn't be a lot of trouble to put an explicit notice in the forum description to make sure everyone who enters knows what he might find. Use a bold font in bright red....

As long as I'm here I have a question -- when the next vBulletin update comes out and it becomes possible to password-protect the forum, is that going to satisfy everybody?
 
When W&C was password protected, there was a form to request the password. A letter was emailed with the password and a warning. If we can do something similar with this forum, email a warning with the password, then no one with the password can claim not to have been warned, and that should cover Sparks ass legally.

Another option might be- when you click to open this forum, you go to a pass-through screen with a warning describing what could be found here. Then you have to click "I agree" to actually get into the forum. It may be a bit of a PITA, but, again, no one could be in here and claim not to have been warned.
 
Spark, even if we can't have porn, please let us at least keep our members (paying!) only forum. Even if Danelle must moderate to remove porn, we can still bitch, cuss and talk bad about each other right?
I would settle for a VERY loosely moderated private club, biker bar type atmosphere. Thanks.

I think a password protected forum is OK but it still does not solve the original question. Does it belong here?

A loosely moderated forum is basically what W&C already is. We run the risk of having a closed dorr session where someone can run to and say whatever they want about whoever without the other party
A) Knowing about it unless someone tells them
B) Having the ability to defend themselves
C) And it opens the door for personal attacks

The "Who did you piss off today" thread is a prime example. I piss off a lot of people every day. I am pissing off many of you now because you think I am the main driving force behind shutting down this forum. At what point do we call that thread a personal attack? So it is OK to piss off people now and come in here and watch what happens? Then go back and forth to egg it on? Keep in mind that many people will not catch the humor that most of us readily do and they will read that as an "OK" to piss of members.

Guys I am more like you then not. I do get quite a bit of satisfaction at watching poor morons get the **** they deserve. But BFC needs to moderate itself, before it can ask you to moderate for it. So take this forum in moderation like a good drink. And when you know that we are only coming in here to get drunk, then we need to stop. Let's go have a few glasses of wine at W&C and shut this bar down. We don't want to serve the under age and we do not want a bunch of drunks. I like you guys better when you have a good buzz going than when your drunk anyway.

I have refrained from commenting about this Forum since it's inception but I have something to say. When I joined BFC I did so with the sole purpose of discussing knives and learning a few things more about them. In the time that I have been here I have learned alot, bought alot, and made some very good friends. I have turned a few people to this site and they have thanked me for it. They were unaware of the joys of owning a knife.

I have a sick sense of humor. I revel in the absurd and visit sites that satiate my appetite for the sick, twisted, and perverted. I have visited, and will continue to visit, sites devoted to the perverse. I have a folder devoted to this sort of thing. I think BladeForums.com should not be one of these sites that I have to put in that folder. Granted, I have posted a few strange things in W&C but nothing bordering on porn (at least that I can remeber). There are millions of porn sites out there already. Hell, type in one inncent word in your browsers search function and you get at least 100 sites devoted to porn. Strange. Baseball=porn. :confused:

W&C should be left as it is with the addition of password protecting it. Legally, I can see where Spark is coming from by not allowing porn to be posted. He operates a knife site not a porn site.

Remember, BFC is about knives, not poontang. If you wanna see some T&A visit a site that specializes in that sort of thing. This whole porn thing on BFC kind of cheapens the one place that I take pride in being a member of.

I haven’t seen much of that. Have you? Back when W&C was pass worded that didn’t take place. (At least in my time here.) These kinds of antics would fall under “self moderation”. The group here would not let that happen, as it is trolling. And trolls just wouldn’t have a long life expectancy here.

As far as the porn goes, if it is in anyway dangerous to BFC then ban it. Without getting into the whole “What is porn?” topic again, I think it is a shame that the more tame pictures are being lumped in with “porn”. But so be it if that is the cost of having a pirate er..ah..ahem.. I mean private forum.

Random, the people in W&C acting like juveniles, and pouring out to "piss someone off", and then escaping back into their hideout, is the main reason a lot of folks don't like BFC. I know it was not all, but enough participated in this sort of nonsense to give the whole place a black eye. Believe me, I have heard this repeated many times, by many people. I just got tired of telling them that things were not that bad anymore. The new forum is already starting off on the wrong foot.:(
 
I have played and laughed around in here and in W&C. (even postied a pic of a nice butt). :)

If folks took things too seriously that is their problem (I really am not into goats etc., etc., etc.), but I would hate for this forum or any part of BFC to be known for porn posting.

I think I have done enough harm joking around with goats :D.

I was and am not aware of that. If that is the case then I stand corrected. Let me re-phrase. I think that this crop of paying juveniles has a higher standard than the un-paying juveniles of the past.:)

I’m sure you are going to say that it was paying members who did some of it in the past. Well I can only respond then sanction the person not the group.

On the lighter side, I used to live in Camp Verde until I moved here in 97. I worked at Montezuma’s Castle and Tuzigoot.

Random, no, I wasn't going to come back with anything. And I agree with much you say. That was then. Unfortunately, it is all many people remember.
Camp Verde, I like it over there, in fact I like the whole valley. A little slow, but thats OK. :D
