Could anyone tell me if fixed blades are legal for concealed carry in Illinois and Indianna? The college I'll be attending i sjust south of Chicago, and I'm hoping that I'll be able to carry a small fixed blade that's 4 or 5 inches or so. Could anyone also tell me about folding knife laws in those same areas?

Illinois:

Illinois Criminal Code 720 ILCS 5/24-1. Unlawful Use of

of weapons when he knowingly... (2) Carries or possesses
with intent to use the same unlawfully against another, a
dagger, dirk, billy, dangerous knife, razor, stiletto,
broken bottle or other piece of glass... or any other
dangerous or deadly weapon of like character...

or carries any... knife commonly referred to as a
switchblade knife, which has a blade that opens
automatically by hand pressure applied to a button, spring
or other device in the handle of the knife, or a ballistic
knife, which is a device that propels a knifelike blade as
a projectile by means of a coil spring, elastic material,
or compressed gas...

Indiana:

Indiana - 35-47-5-2. Knife with automatically opening blade
prohibited. -- It is a class B misdemeanor for a person to
manufacture, possess, display, offer, sell, lend, give
away, or purchase any knife with a blade that opens
automatically by hand pressure applied to a button,
spring, or other device in the handle of the knife.

Indiana seems much more knife friendly. You better check with the college as well. Many colleges are super strict about knife carry on campus.

Thanks for the info! The college's rule is 3 inches or smaller. I am going to call them soon to see about whether a fixed blade is ok. I'm thinking specifically about the CRKT Plan B. It oughta fit in a pocket, esp a inside jacket pocket, and with it's humble appearance, doesn't draw a second look. Thanks again
