Can anyone tell me what the legal length for a fixed blade knife is in South Carolina? I am pretty sure its 7 inches but i just wanted to double check:) thanks

7 inches? Pfft:) In my 10+ years of studying knife law I've never seen a length limit that long. When you have a 7 inch blade, it would make no sense for there to be limits on longer.

South Carolina changed it's laws a few years ago, and it is now legal to carry folding and fixed blade knives of any size you darn well please. Only regulation is you can't take them to school and you can't have a knife on you when committing a crime (which obviously will be the least of your worries at that point)

Ah, ok thanks, I probably worded my question wrong, when i said 7 inches i meant overall length. Thanks for the info though I greatly appreciate it. :) The reason i asked is because i bought a new fixed blade and wanted to carry it, but didn't want cops bothering me every time they saw me, again thanks for the info. :)

In that case if you open carry, be mindful if you're downtown in a big incorporated city. Some have municipal codes about knives that are tighter than the state law, and cities even sometimes have laws about open-carry, but permit concealed carry. The logic is they don't people being "menacing" by strapping on big blades. And sometimes if you are openly carrying a big knife is say a grocery store or are hanging around in a commercial area, there is still a possibility of getting hassled a bit by the cops because they will find you suspicious. This can even result in a disorderly conduct ticket even if there is no law be broken just by carrying the knife. Short answer, never flaunt weaponry in front of cops.

But remember concealed carry is fine under state law, so if nobody sees it, there will never be a problem in the first place.

Ok thanks :) my knife is only 7 inches overall, i kind of live in the sticks, and ive seen a few guys with fixed blades. But you make a good point, thanks for all of your help :)
