Asking because I couldn't sort through the nonsense regarding New York City's knife laws.

Is it legal to sell a fixed blade knife, with a 6" spearpoint blade with a swedge, and ship it, to someone in New York City?

I can't imagine it being any less legal than selling a cooking knife, but figured I'd ask....

The state of New York does not have any kind of legal authority to prevent sale or shipping of items from outside the state to customers inside the state if said items are legal to own under federal and state law. There are state laws on carrying certain types under certain circumstances, but there is no law preventing ownership or possession of fixed blades. While it seems to be common practice for knife sellers to refuse to sell to NY, this is not because of any kind of law on it, but rather due to the alleged threats made by the NYC District Attorney to sue such sellers. Personally I have not seen any hard evidence of such suits and the aforementioned DA is already under a fair bit of scrutiny for misusing the knife laws as an extortion racket.

My understanding is the recent NYC issues had primarily to do with folders and how they open, lock, etc. I don't recall any issues with fixed blades. I'm sure William Sonoma sells plenty of 8 and 10 inch chef's.

Yea, but those are OK because they are for your kitchen. ;) Just like some cities don't allow blades over 3 inches (or whatever) but you can walk into a steak restaurant that has a knife sitting at every place setting. So ridiculous.
