Is it Legal for the common man to purchase straight razors? Do I need a liscence to do so?

Like any legal question, the answer will depend on where you are. In Oregon, no license is required.

not a problem to buy or to use
however many states say they are a non carry blade (think like the law of the eveil black rifle ban of a few years ago)
any one in the know knows that to carry a straight for SD woudl be more a waste then anything other (but there banned like autos anyhow )

so yes good to go buying shaving or collecting but not for street carry

No practical use for carrying one on your person anyhow. Use a straight razor on anything but your face and you're liable to take a quarter-sized chip out of the edge anyhow. No license necessary to purchase one anywhere in the U.S. to the best of my knowledge. :)

cause there called cut throats and there super sharp

fact is you could sharpen any blade to as sharp as a straight but most people dont think about that and carrying a scalpel is scary to sheeple

same like carrying a massive combat bowie or gerber mk2. show it off in public and expect at least a breach of peace or similar. it's not because of the people, I don't care who you are, there is a time and place for such knives, and on main street isn't one of them. it freaks people out, and with cause, it's all about context.

Well, that is true these days. But, many years ago when many of these laws were made, it may not have been so true.

Today, it's not unusual to see folks demonstrate the sharpness of their knives by shaving the hair on their arms. Knife Collectors Mange it's known as. (Some time ago, on a Monday AM, a co-worker said to me, "It looks like you sharpened some of your knives over the weekend."

"As a matter of fact, I did... but how did you know?"

"Your left forearm is bare.")

Anyway, a straight razor has never been a great weapon. It doesn't lock open and the pivot is way to loose. The shape is not good. The handles are typically not very strong. The modern folding knife is much better.

In those instances, some folks recommend a Busse Battle Mistress...

Is it Silverbullets?

If so, it's not back hair.

I'm a licensed barber in California, I use straight razors at work. I wouldn't carry one around, but they're completly fine to buy...
