Nice job . With the sharpening method you use, is there a way to keep the edge consistent along the entire cutting length? In other words, not let the edge widen as it nears the tip?
Niiiiiiiiiiiiiice
That is amazing brother! Wish I had talent to do the same to my NMFSH. Lookin sharp brother.
That is stellar as usual Rob!👍🏻🥓
awesome....can't wait for the custom shop to reopen so I can send Dan's in
Polished edge looks great. I agree the HO Steel Heart is a beautiful design. My FSH is 5/16" of SR-101, and I feel the same way, it's a 'beast of knife.' Although to be honest, 1/4-inch would be plenty thick for me on this blade. The design of the Fusion handle is awesome. The overall balance, lines and proportions on this design are super nice and as you said I feel they are near perfect.
Thanks guys! I really appreciate the support ---- I just felt after everything that previous edge had been through, it deserved a proper sharpening and enhancing its teeth. Now it'll whittle hair and bite extra deep.
Same as usual I went with 19 degrees per side (38 degrees inclusive) and I polished/finished it at .5 microns on Balsa wood strops.
For those curious:
Diamond Grit Progression: 100, 200, 400, 600, 800, 1000
Ceramic Grit Progression: 1600, 1200, 1.4 micron, .6 micron
Balsa Wood Strops: 5 micron, 3.5 micron, 1 micron, and .5 micron
The reason why the Bevel widens, as was correctly stated Ratman79, is because the thickness of blade increases at those sections. You could try to keep the Bevel height consistent, but you would be forced to sacrifice cutting efficiency in the form of a more obtuse edge geometry. I personally have grown to enjoy the look. Now I know that my angle is consistent and that blade penetration will be noticeably improved where the Bevel has widened compared to if it wasn't.
As for a secondary --- I haven't really thought to dabble. At the moment, the results I'm getting are definitely meeting my needs
