Anyone in the know here on Microtechs? Got this scarab Iai gen 3 and it looks off. It’s bigger and blockier than my Gen 2. The corners of the handle are sharp. The laser engraving of the scarab on the clip is coarse and usually Microtech’s laser work is almost faint and ghostly. No serial number. No DOB. And the clip is seated crooked. And the action feels sloppier than my Gen II which fires like a canon. Thoughts?

FWIW there are dealer photos on legit sites which show that clip with no DOB and what looks to be a deeply engraved beetle; those two details seem to match up OK.

The clip looks off, does the scarab have eyes on its head?

Pic off the web.

All of the gen 3's show no MT logo or born on date.

This picture is zoomed in also, maybe it's just the way it was made? The head is kinda fuzzy.

The Gen III was an attempt to make a good usable knife more like a toy. Yes, it’s probably real. No, it’s not as high quality as older generations.

Here's a picture of my Gen 3 clip. The engraving is a little different, but my knife has a rough stonewashed finish (apocalyptic).
Not sure if that matters. Everything else in your pics looks correct and yes, the action is a little sluggish opening but closes hard.

Check the switch, it should have a spring to reduce friction against the body. If there's some play when you push down on it, towards the body, then it has the spring.
I haven't seen cloners get that detail correct.
