Good day!

I am just new to this and started learning about folding knives for my EDC.
After weeks of researching for the perfect folding knife that would fit my preferences, I have decided to get a Spyderco Cat Folding Knife.
Purchased this from Tactical Asia (http://www.tacticalasia.com)

I would like to seek your help in verifying if the knife i bought is fake or not.

Upon checking, everything looks fine however, i noticed a couple of things:

-there was an imperfection in the thumb hole of the blade; a tiny burr in its inlay.

-the spyderco logo was a bit off; the alignment was tilted a bit to the right and about 1/3 of the logo is hidden when the blade is closed.
I have been looking at a LOT of spyderco folding knives online and have noticed that the logo is fully visible when the knives are closed. Am just not sure if this is normal or this is unusual.

Here are the links to the photos of my brand new knife.

Appreciate your help!

Looks exactly the same as mine, down to the logo. Mine also had a tiny burr in the spyderhole that I sanded off later.

can you send me a picture of your knife? want to compare the logo. thanks!
Unfortunately I just sold that knife and shipped it out. I'll see if I have some pictures left over but they might not show the logo well.

I don't have a Cat, but like you I am paranoid about fakes. That's why I only buy from trusted US dealers. Piece of mind is worth a few bucks versus buying overseas for a little less in my opinion.

That being said, if it feels legit (no blade play, good centering, smooth opening, etc), you are probably fine.

Cat, in hand.. Compared it to all photo's, including the "burr" in the spydie hole.
It's all the same same..

It seems to just be the lower end of quality, on the spectrum, to me.. Wire clip even feels flimsy, compared to my other model's..

But my Wonderful little girl, at 6 yrs old, wanted to buy me a Spyderco for Christmas! :)

Here's the best picture I have. It looks exactly the same as yours.

It looks like mine. I do not know about flimsy or less quality. Mine is one of the better finished Spydercos I have (I own quite a few). I have had mine a while and it gets a lot of pocket time and always travels with me.
It "only" has 440C, which is similar to BD-1, and not bad at all. One mine, the G10 is perfect and the entire knife is well chamfered to remove any sharp edges. What a wonderful value.

i've been extra observant with the legit feel of the knife. glad it doesn't have any blade play and has good centering with smooth opening. thanks for the tip.

last question, do you often encounter rust spots in your knife? do you regularly have to clean and oil it?
Haha I can't really answer that properly. As I mentioned before, I sold the knife recently because I almost never carried it. So I can't speak too much to what kind of maintenance it needs. In general though, you shouldn't need to do too much maintenance on a stainless steel besides cleaning the blade after use, unless you live in a really humid environment.
