Legitimate Legitimus?

Hey guys,

Sorry, but I haven't had good luck in the knife forums in the past. Thought I would just see if any of you happen to know anything about this before I try another forum.

Went to an antique mall today to scan for axes (saw a few), but saw this giant legitimus knife.

I did a google image search but didn't see anything like it come up. Is this a legitimate legitimus? When I search I only see the WWII bowie and machete. This is neither of those. what do you think?

It gives me vibe of modified late model Collins machete. You should ask mod to move it to Bernard Levine's Knife Collecting & Identification forum

I can post on that forum - I haven't been to that one before.

I don't think its the bowie - that was my first thought - a reworked, rehandled bowie - but I don't think so - the bowie has dual grooves in the blade.

also, It may cost more than I can swing unless I know that it is really worth it - or more.
 
This has been a great learning experience, as i know very little about Collins knives and machetes...knives in general.

Thanks guys! that people on the other forum also thought it was a rehandled, cut down machete.

while it is still kind of cool. definitely not worth the price they are asking. at least not to me. I'm not sure its actually usable with that handle anyways. you can't tell from the picture, but the handle is actually huge. I'm sure I couldn't get my hand around it.
