"Lemme borrow yer knife"

What for? If he needs to pry something loose, I got a multitool instead. I got a girl once wanting to borrow my knife because she wanted to cut out a small splinter. I gave her my vic tweezers instead; easier and less destructive.

"You break it you buy it, and its not cheap. But go ahead." :-) no sense not letting someone buy me a new knife.

Usually go's something like:

"Can I borrow your knife?"
"Depends...... what do you need it for?"
"Cut open a box"
"Hmmm, ok"
"Wow that's nice"
*Cuts box*
"Wow, that is REALLY sharp"
"I know...."

Then I have to pry it back out of their hands.

i always ask what they are going to cut;if its not rope or something normal, i wont let it go,unless its a user knife.

This is exactly why I carry a rough use/backup/hand out knife, which is currently a Skeletool, and not the ATS34 model. It's also why I carry a "backup" light.
This helps keeping you from getting categorized as a knife/flashlight/etc. " nut.

Depends on the person asking, ive more then once told a person, no I dont have one :( when I did, "all you have and you anit got one on you?" lol nope :S

as i mentioned in the other post on this topic: this is why we have Mora Clipper 860s and similar.

if someone asks to borrow a knife, i hand them a Clipper.

if someone asks to borrow MY knife (Fallkniven S1 or WM1), i hand them the clipper unless they are a good, trusted mate who will most likely have their own blade and not need to borrow mine anyways.

I get that all the time from the same people. Dont mind it a couple times, but after that I tell them they need to go out and buy a knife.

I only let two of my friends borrow my knives. One appreciates a good knife and treats mine with respect. The other is a head chef and he regularly uses a $300 dollar Shun chef knife when he's working. Everyone else gets nope as an answer.

At work it usually goes something like this.

"Hey man, let me borrow your blade?"
"Sure, here you go." And then I hand them my folding razor knife.

Anywhere else, it usually goes like this.

"Hey, can I borrow your knife?"
"What do you need it for?"
"blah blah blah"

I make my decision based on what they are using it for. If it's something simple then I say "Here ya go." If it's something not so simple I say, "Let me get that for you." If it's something that a knife is not to be used for I just say "Nope."

i also usually reply with 'what for?'. if it involves a greater than 1% chance it will be broken or damaged, i will either perform the task or tell them no. like i have had no problem stabbing the top of a can of juice with a knife so we could pour it (no can opener) but hell no am i going to watch someone else do that. and yes i have been known to use a knife as a bottle opener (the same way people use a lighter) but ill be damned if im going to give it to someone else for that reason.
