Lenox file?

I picked up a couple of files during my regular pawn shop run. One was a nicholson 14", and the other was a 12" with no markings other than Lenox Made in USA. It looks to be a mill bastard. Anyone heard of this brand? It's destined to become a knife blade if it's good steel. Surely beats Made in China.

Best part of it all... got both files and a 1 pound ball peen hammer for 3 bucks!

I hope there s a way to file test the blade after non-magnetic heat treat ? I thought about that on an older file, Nickerson one, I just forged. There's not much on files as mystery metal /tempering ?

lenox makes all sorts of industrial and consumer grade saw blades. they used to make files, here is a link to an 1960 catalog https://archive.org/stream/LenoxAme... American Pattern Files 1960 Catalog_djvu.txt i would clean it and use it as a file until it won't cut before using it for blade. I would treat it like any high carbon steel, soak at 1500F and quench in fastest oil you have.
