I have heard good things about Yann Nomine's work, so I recently ordered a 12cm Laguiole knife from Yann Nomine and Renaud Dumarcay at Les Couteliers de Fountainebleu.

I dont usually get packages from France, so even the post lady was curious when it arrived............

The juniper covers smell very nice, peppery, a little sharper stronger scent compared to lignum vitae.

i need to head out for a bottle of cabernet, bread, cheese and sausage, so gotta run......

please be encouraged to post any work by these gentlemen!

Edit: this is a very sturdy strong knife, much closer to a Buck 110 than a GEC slip joint. The sheath also has a very nice detail of a leather backing on the male snap stud, so the knife cannot be scratched by the sheath.

Very, very nice - and pretty cool bonus that it come with a bit of parfum français :D
Did the sheath come with it? All good

I was not expecting a sheath, but it is a nice bonus, and im not sure I could carry this pretty knife jangling around with my susan b anthonys and tactical skull beads

Yann Nominé and Renaud Dumarçay of Fontainebleau were wonderful to do business with. They were kind, courteous and patient with me as I took quite a bit of time deciding on the knife I wanted. After a few weeks Renaud wrote that they had made three different knives that I could choose from.
This beauty was my choice and I could not be more pleased. They call it the climber.
Closed length - 4 5/16”
Cutting portion of blade - 3”
Overall length - just shy of 7 5/8”
Blade width - 13/16”
Blade steel is 12c27
fullsizeoutput_beb.jpeg The handles are heated stabilized oak quite thick. The overall thickness 5/8”. Fit and finish is superb with a pull of 5 to 6, no half stop, and a rock solid snap and lock into the open position. The knife came razor sharp. It has a wonderful feel in hand, thick across the spine but narrow the other way. I love everything about it.fullsizeoutput_bec.jpegfullsizeoutput_bed.jpeg fullsizeoutput_bee.jpegfullsizeoutput_bf0.jpeg

That is SWEET!!! Very cool that they gave you options - you chose a beauty - really special.
Congrats!!!

That's an excellent piece of work, you must be delighted Dwight:cool:

Wonder if they do smaller sizes? Bit too big for my pocket but otherwise it's 'ravi'

Thanks for posting. Nominé's Le Grimpeur is one the nicest gent's folder I've seen.

Thank you Will. There was only one size of the climber that I'm aware of.

No, only one size. The one-offs can have damas or different steels with a bare blade.

I found a couple Le Grimpeurs on other sites with decorated backspacers. They are stunning. Below is one.

That's a nice looking knife. I had to pull up their website to see all that they offer. From the pictures it looks like it has thin edges (like an Opinel). Is that correct?
