I am new to les George never had one and I am just wonder how hard the steel is heat treated to and how the edge retention is. Let's say compared to the s35vn on the sebenza (58-59RC) and the S30V on the PM2. I am looking for something with better than average edge retention.

I am looking for people who own and use this knife spherically! Thanks guys!!

My VECP 2.0 has XHP steel - fantastic stuff! Edge retention seems to be great and easy enough to re-sharpen

CTS XHP has become my favorite stuff thanks to my VECP. It holds an edge a bit better than my Sebenza's s35v, and can be resharpened with ease.

The VECP's fit and finish, ergonomics, and reliability alone make this knife worth purchasing, the steel is just the cherry ontop.

Not to mention dealing with Les George himself has been a pleasure. He response to emails fast and if you need to send in you're knife for any sort of fix or maintenance, you get it back in no time.

The best way to find accurate answers on hardness of the steel is to email Les directly and ask. CTS-XHP should outperform S35VN by far, especially if the latter steel is only hardened to 57-58Rc.

Couldnt have said it better

It's one of the finest knives I have ever owned, regardless of the price or niche it was meant to fill. CTS-XHP is a fantastic blade steel IMHO. I prefer it over S35VN by a decent margin.

Ok great that's what I was hoping! How the slicing ability compared to the PM2 or sebenza for example?

I'd say about 59-60 from the example I sharpened.

It's not going to be like a "S" Class CPM stainless, its going to be like CPM D2 only stainless.

When I posted this thread I had already emailed Les George. I was hoping for an instant answer on this thread haha anyway I heard back from Les George and "they are all about 60RC" were his exact words. Just for future reference.

Next question... Ik don't have any experience with this steel So is that a good hardness for the XHP? What hardness does the XHP really shine?

It's simply a fantastic knife. You will be hard pressed to find a better knife with its steel and a great maker to boot. In my dealings with Les, I am now more sure that the knife will meet live up to the integrity of its maker. The ergonomics, fit & finish and steel are stellar.

I got one on the way so man your making me really drool now haha awesome to hear. I was looking something sebenza like but well to be frank with a harder steel. I loooove CRK and LOOOVE the sebenza but I have and love the super steels M390, S90V ect.. Talk about grail... a sebenza with a super steel! anyway I. Rally looking forward to it now!
