Just scored a Wilson Combat/ George Talon and since Im a CRK Superfan I cant help but wonder what the older VECP model offers also.

I understand the Talon is the larger of the two but do they both share other features? Are they both on washers? Is one more desirable than the other?

Really cant wait to compare the Talon to my CRKs but wonder if I "need" a VECP at some point also.

Construction-wise, they're nearly identical. The newest versions of the VECP sometimes have a lockbar overtravel stop. The VECP design has been around a lot longer, it was one of the first "midtechs", so there's that. The Talos has a much better blade to handle ratio, but otherwise I would say they're really similar.

I've had a lot of mid techs go through my hands (CRK, Hinderer, Strider, Ferrum Forge, Southard, TSF, etc.), and the Les Georges are some of my absolute favorites.

I currently have a VECP gen 3 in my carry rotation and absolutely love it. His folders are extremely comfortable in hand and just a pleasure to use...and use hard :)

The Talon is the WC version of his Talos, I believe. So, if you're interested in checking out another of his designs...go for the VECP. And yes, both are on PB washers and buttery smooooth. The gen 3/version 3 VECPs have CTS-XHP steel, internal stop pins, larger hardware, oversized pivot, Hinderer LBS, grooved ti backspacer, frame scallop, and new thumb studs. It's just a fantastic folder, IMO.

Good luck in your choice!

As others have said, if you like the Talos then you would also like the VECP. I love the VECP, it is a great folder. I currently only own the ESV (Extra Small VECP) and it offers a lot of knife in a small package.

This thread needs pictures.

I have a feeling thay if I like the Talon, this is gonna get expensive. That inlaid knife looks bad ass!!

Had a flipper Eagle a while back and it didnt flip. Sold it

Les George makes great knives. I used to have a VECP, and it was a great knife. You can't go wrong with any of his knives.

I have a set of those upgraded stand offs...I put the back spacer back in as I like it more. Here are some pics of how my VECP is currently set up.

That looks great. How/where did you get the anodized backspacer and pocket clip screws? I've been waiting for Les to get more of those stamped Steel Flame clips, but he's been out of the blue ti ones for a good while now. I just have the blue laser clip on it at the moment.

Here is another pic for comparison. Unfortunately I let go of the Wilson Combat to fund another knife. I really like the frag pattern Talos and I have a nice leather belt sheath for the plain Talos so I kept both of those and let the Wilson go.

I am the same as you, a CRK Superfan. 2 years ago I tried a VECP and I am glad I did! A VECP is just as good as my CRK's. My favorite CRK is the 21, I would put it on the same level, and I am considering buying a back-up VECP.

I love this one! Used it to cut my youngest childs umbilical cord when she was born. I emailed Les and told him the story and he replied immediately congratulating me on the birth of my third child and said he was happy to hear about his knives being used, especially for such a unique task. Hes a stand up dude and his knives are excellent. I have almost bought a Talos on a few occasions. I have only held off because I have so many folders already...

I have a morph talos and a monkey edge frag talos, and the zt 909 which is very close in design to the talos, they are great knives, had all 3 vecp's but I like the talos design better.very well made smooth actions, cannot recommend one enough.

I had a VECP and it was incredibly comfortable in hand. Wish I hadn't sold it, and I need to get another sometime. Les is a great guy to deal with as well. Very friendly and helpful. His ZT collabs are nice too! Try them all (if your wallet allows).

I just got the WC/George knife in.

Initial impressions,

I love the weight of it. I love how solid it feels.

I do not like how the screws simply screw into the lock side scale. Mine has a little bit of side to side blade play but that my be adjustable, i'll mess with it later.

Its NOT a CRK but it is something special. I'm looking for a VECP now. And a Steel Flame Les George Pocket Clip :)

The screws only going into the opposite side of the frame make it easier to assemble. Les is a one man operation, not a factory. Time is of the essence. The side to side play can be adjusted out. You may want to use a drop of Loctite as after a lot of use the pivot may have a tendency to loosen up. I've had CRKs and Georges and mine have all been built to the same level of quality. Opinions may differ, but I've had great luck with everything that came with Les's name on it.
