I just watched a good chunk of the 1994 self filmed documentary with Les Stroud and his wife Sue called Snowshoes and Solitude and i have to say that it gave me a much more profound view of Les Stroud and his standing in the survival community. This was one of the best films I've seen on the subject in a while. The two of them live in the Canadian wild for a year and build the first 3-season shelter with a stone ax. They had NO real tools until the fall when two friends came to visit and asked them to keep some of the basic stuff for the winter, like a small ax, saw, and trappers' stove. I think the weirdest part of the whole video was seeing Les with not only a full head of hair, but long blonde hippie hair at that.:) Anyone who loves primitive living/skills or survival should check this out. I saw chunks on a survival website but it was just posts of You Tube videos. Also check out 'Alone in the Wilderness' a documentary about Dick Proenneke. It shows him build an awesome cabin with a saw,dbl bit ax and chisel back in the late 60's...its amazing since he was already in his mid-fifties, and a pretty small guy at that.

He also has a nice video out there somewhere in cyber land about building a house off the grid. Like you say, he's not just some tv personality - he is living it.

Did you know they actually had him on MTV cribs?? It shows the house he built and some other pretty cool stuff

Thanks for the link of the video. I will check it out. Seems that Les Stroud and his wife Laura just joined up on a certain forum that I frequent. This should be interesting for sure.

If you enjoy these type of videos than you should check out "Bush Families" and "Pioneer Quest".

Just watched the Les Stroud doc yesterday. Thanks for the heads up on that one.
I would recommend the movie Alone in the Wilderness. Dick Proenneke was quite a man.
