I saw "Deadly Waters" with Les Stroud this evening. I generally like Les' work and feel he's a pretty sincere guy. However, this show struck me as a relatively feeble effort. Nothing that hasn't been done-to-death before and no new insights.

Anyone else watch the program and have any thoughts on it?

Never heard about it until now. I'd like to see him back in the woods meself. Not necessarily Survivorman, but something. I always enjoyed that show.

I'd like to see him back in the woods with some type of primitive living show.

Any knowlege that could have probably been garnered from it was lost in its sensationalism IMO. To keep things on a survival track you have much more pressing concerns if you are stranded in the open ocean than shark attack. The first two would be remaining afloat and hypothermia. Then fresh water, then securing a food source, then shark attack. I actually stopped watching it because of the attitude I percieved the show put forth, i.e. you are going to be attacked by a shark if you go in the water.

Glad to hear it wasn't just me starting to become a grumpy old man! One of my buddies actually complains about excessive noise when watching Maria Sharapova play tennis! She's a stunning 6' 2" blonde in her early 20s who has reasonable tennis talent---and he's worried about her making a little noise when she hits the ball? Excuse her for interrupting your nap you grumpy old codger!

But I digress. I too would like to see Les do some more nature-oriented shows that do not involve sensationalistic re-hashing of tired, old material. I think I'll send a constructive comment to Discovery Channel.

Thanks for your thoughts,
