His little LE / tiger hide brothers are getting lonely!

I waited much too long before ordering this one -- serves me right... I knew I NEEDED that beast from the first time I saw it. In the meantime, these guys are waiting patiently for FBM LE to come home:

Thanks again Dan

Ok...I know I should know what that top one is, but I am just getting into the Street scene....which is it?

It's hard to see the grind in the pic, but it's a Leaner

What he said. All the different versions are confusing to us young piglets. Is there a wise old Hog that can explain it all to us? I especially like the one that has the full height flat grind, but I don't think that came as a Leaner, just a Lean.

Nice, I want to do the same thing. I have the LE SJTAC and and LE FBM on order. I gotta find me a meaner.

Full height grind is always the Meaner. Leaners have the hollow grind.

Half-right. The Leaner is still a flat grind, it just doesn't reach the top of the blade. Technically, it is a sabre grind.

Rick - my first Busse was a Meaner

Nice pick, I can't wait to see the family pic of the three together.

OK, this is helping, thanks Rick. So the full height flat grind I like is the Meaner. Now, what about thickness, because I don't really like fatties in a small blade (notwithstanding the Euro 4 I just scored). Does it go Leaner, Lean, Mean, Meaner as the stock thickens, or does that make too much sense?

Who's got pics?

OK, Sabre grind is not the same as hollow grind. It's just a flat grind that isn't a full height flat grind... Now I get it. Thanks for the clarification

In general terms, the Mean Streets seem to have been the fattest, as in 0.25" and thicker. The satin Meaners are 0.220" stock and, though stout, make pretty decent slicers. I tend to use mine as a general knock-about knife when hiking here in Idaho.

I have no experience with the Lean Streets model, so I can't offer any comments on it vis-a-vis the Leaner, which is around 0.15" (0.145" on my example).

Someone (Seth Murdoc?) once claimed that the primary grind on the Leaners and Meaners was the same. The thinner stock on the Leaner turned it into a sabre grind (not unlike the difference between the Heavy Heart and the HOFSH). Measurements of my Meaner and Custom Leaner do not bear that claim out, but it might be true for a production Leaner.
