'Less aggressive' skateboard tape?

I recently bought a used Kershaw Cryo II knife, to use around my house and while doing car repair, when I don't want to use my rather expen$ive Zero Tolerance 0456. It's my EDC knife, and it is getting the marks from usage, but I don't want to be dropping it on the cement garage floor, point down.

The Cryo II a nice knife for $25 shipped, but it is all metal, and it's a bit slippery: both sides of the knife are smooth metal. It needs something to give it a bit more 'grip'.

Skateboard tape would work, but it's really more aggressive than I want: it is basically a very coarse sandpaper with a good adhesive on the back.

The last time I used skateboard tape, I put it on a first generation Glock, and it scraped my hand raw after a short time rounds. I had to peel it off at the range. Later, when they started making them, I put on a Hogue Handall slip-on rubber grip, that is just perfect on the Glock.

Does anyone know of something similar to skateboard tape, that won't grind off the skin on my hand?

Many thanks.

Last thing I put grip tape on was... a skateboard :P

Seriously though if you like the grip tape, you could wear it in a little then put in on your knife. I'm not sure the fastest or easiest way but the bottom of Van's always worked for me :) slowly but surely.

I put non-slip tape on my Rockstead Chi and have never found it to be intrusive. I'd imagine that there would be more friction against your hand from a gun grip while shooting than from a knife handle while cutting.

If you want it to be less aggressive, just rub it against concrete or glass until you're happy:thumbup:

I used some hockey tape on a knife that has slick acrylic handles. Basically a tacky cloth in the form of tape that adheres really well and provides good grip.

There is a g10 version of the cryo. But I'd have to agree with everyone else. Slip resistant tape is hreat

Tennis racquet tape. Might be similar to previous suggestions.
Consider sanding the handle with 180 grit paper.
