less expensive or more inexpensive

Which do u prefer? A few expensive knives or more inexpensive knives.

Would u rather have $200+ knives in very small quantities, or more under $200 knives. Just curious to see where people are on this.

Quality over quantity is my mindset when it comes to knives.

You get what you pay for.

I'm still working up to more expensive knives. But it's hard for me to believe that paying more will get me more than my ZT's. The most i have paid for any knife to date is $150.....but i also have no problem buying used as all my knives get worked into the rotation. And i have noticed that price does not guarentee happiness, quite the opposite for me, if i spent a lot (for me) and it wasn't quite what i was expecting or the quality MUCH better than that of a cheaper knife, the disappointment is that much greater!

So far my most expensive knife is an Emerson A100 that was still under $200. Most of the knives I have are under $80, I typically buy them lightly used to keep the cost down. Oddly I don't have many newer knives that are under $50, kinda weird the way the price bracketing worked out on that. Some day I'll get a >$200 knife, more than likely it'll be one of the hinderer/zt flippers when they come out, maybe a strider sng in the distant future too.

I do both as well. But as I have said in other threads, I really have to think before spending much more than $150 on any knife regardless of perceived quality. You have to be able to distinguish and appreciate the quality difference to regularly spend more than $200 for a blade. I guess in general, I would be in the quantity over quality camp in terms of a $200 baseline, but you can buy some very good knives for under $150. My break points are $150 and $300 rather than $200.

I keep eyeing Bob Dozier's custom folders in the $600 price area and just can't bring myself to spend that kind of money yet. But I might feel differently if I handle one at the upcoming Blade Show in Atlanta GA.

I don't care what the price is so much as how much utility I get for my dollar. If it's a good design that represents a good functional value and rounds out my range of cutting tools (different blades for different situations) then I'm game. If the money is sunk into what I deem excessive embellishments, lacks in quality (at the other end of the spectrum), or doesn't do something my other pieces don't then I have no strong desire for the knife, regardless of price. :)

I carry knives ranging from around $120 to over $600 depending on what I feel like carrying that day.

A person needs both. Most Ferrari owners used a daily driver as well. I chose a Boker Cop Tool for my last job, cause it was rough on tools. So, for $30, I had a tool I could use, and abuse. I would never take a $200 knife to that job, a disposable razor knife was more appropriate for scraping silicone caulk off of stucco walls.

In other situations, like camping, I want a reliable tool that holds an edge, and offers comfort, ie. no hot spots, and has great control.

My most expensive knife is about $250, but my other cheaper knives are the "beaters". I find an Ontario Afghan to be a great knife for the price, and I don't mind beating on it, hard if need be, but I wouldn't do that to thinner, sharper, and more expensive knives from Fiddleback, or Bark River.

Quality. Sold an Emerson CQC-10, Para2, and Manix 2 M4 to try out a higher end knife. Bought an SMF to try and it was just entirely too big, I thing I could have battoned a car in half though if needed:D Got an Umnumzaan and don't regret selling the others at all. My mechanic nature is very picky though, snap-on tools have spoiled me in the precision quality area. The Umnumzaan just oozes quality and screams that it's a tough folder meant to last. I lost my desire for a XM-18 the moment I clipped it to my pocket.

I still carry a deluxe tinker and a kershaw blur for work. The blur will do everything from scratching a gasket off to cutting zip ties. My disposable income is not much but have learned you get what you pay for with some things.

I have just started getting into higher end knives after starting out with 50-100 dollar knives. I definitely prefer quality over quantity.

I think I will only buy higher end knives and sprint run, exotic steel spydercos from now on.

Well I personally only have one knife that cost me over 200.00 my extrema ratio. However I do feel I do have other quality knives that I am fully satisfied with. My Esee 3,4 izula and Junglas and a fallkniven f1 I would not trade for anything. I also have a 12 dollar 14" imacasa daga machete that I love and has done everything I needed it to. While I truly appreciate quality and prefer it over quantity I don't believe that you have to spend over 200.00 to achieve that. You just have to know what you are looking for and pick the knife for the appropriate task.

Quality beats quantity! no 50 dollar blade will beat my 200 dollar blade, no matter whats the knife, when you have the right steel, right shape and right knife balance it will preform so good that I prefer taking my 300$ blade for "dirty jobs" than my 50$ blade which will break if ill use it.
Always go for quality, trust your blade, if its good enough it will never let you down!

I don't think it's practical to have a hard and fast rule because there will always be expensive knives I want and cheaper, high-value knives I can't resist. If you can go through life only buying one kind of knife then more power to you, but I can't. The key is to be discriminating no matter what kind of knife you're looking at. Develop your personal taste and it will be easier to figure out what you want knife to knife. It pays to be open-minded; at least for me.

I like both. I get a lot of joy out of carrying my Custom Demko, Sebenza, Spyderco's, Benchmades or Emersons. I also like carrying a SAK or a Case slipjoint which isn't too costly. I like quality and try to keep most of my knives USA made with the exception of a few Japanese made knives. I won't carry Chinese crap.

I don't prefer having too many knives at one time and I usually have one cheaper blade and one more expensive blade. Both receive equally hard use.

I have one mid-tech handmade DDR that was 270. I have another DDR coming in (not sure when...custom) that will be closer to 7 or 800. I don't even remember the price at the moment. My fixed blade is handmade but still 160. And, I am contemplating another folder to finish my list of knives I want, which will be 595 Keith Ouye. I'll see the maker at Blade. Problem is, he can have it ready by the end of August, and I'm not sure I want to shell out that much in that small span of time.

You do get what you pay for. I started on a ZT 0350.

My most expensive knife is a wenger SAK that was around $30. My other knives arde all around $20 or less Mora's, SRM, and Bucks
