I haven't actually done the math, but it sure SEEMS like the more knives I buy, the fewer I actually have!

As I've gotten new knives they push the old ones further and further back out of the EDC rotation. I finally broke down earlier this year and gave a few away. I'm kinda eyeing a few more.

Anyone else find as you get MORE into your knife addiction, you actually have fewer pieces?

Thats exactly what happened to me. I think I bought up about 30 or so knives when I first started collecting now I'm down to 15 I think. It happened to me because I started wanting more and more customs so I sold alot of my production stuff to pay for them. Even though my collection has gotten smaller I like it even more now.

Absolutely. When I first discovered these forums, I had 9 knives.
Since then, I've bought 20, and now have a total of 15 (three or four of which I'm thinking of selling).
So, 9+20=15? Nope, I just get rid of anything that I don't use, and wasn't a gift.
The total # of knives hasn't gone up that much, but the average price has skyrocketed-Bladeforums can be rough on the wallet:D
Customs have really ruined my urge for production knives, too.

Owen M, I'd guess what's happened to here is what has happened to all knifenuts at one
time or the other.....We finally learn what it is we really like. I ,too, when through a "buying
spree" of every size, shape & style that I read about here and wherever I could concerning
knives. The strange thing is that along the way I "learned" what pleased me the most along
with what just didn't make the cut. I had at one time over 100 knives of all type's. Then
one day not long ago I sorted them by what pleased me and what didn't. Not suprizingly
the pile of "pleasers" was very , very small. I guess I found the center of my interest.
Those that didn't please are now being slowly sold off. I've "learned" what I like. I
find a measure of satisfaction knowing what I like. It makes this hobby so much richer
and rewarding. The knives I carry now are the result of much thought finding what
fit my needs. These tools seldom change as they are "just right" for me.

After a couple years of pretty steady trading back and forth, my knife-count is pretty much the same as when I started, (which is TOO MANY, according to my lovely wife).:D.
