Less obvious uses for SAK tools

I find that the corkscrew is great for loosening knots, what uses have you found for SAK tools besides their "normal" uses?

Can opener makes great staple remover.

Small screw driver on can opener fits in those tiny cracks of the pistachio nut that is barely open, but not enough for finger nail.

Bottle opener makes good light duty pry tool.

Can opener hook makes good tool for grabbing bail on pot hanging over campfire.

Back mounted phillips screw driver makes a decent improvised punch tool when knife is held in fist with phillips sticking out from between index and middle finger.

I've "heard" that the tweezers make a decent roach clip. Just hearsay mind you!

The sharp awl on the Alox models makes for a great foil cutter on wine bottles. No need to dull the primary blade.

I've used the can opener as a watch back opener, its not elegant but can be done. The mystery hook can also work to loosen some knots. The spine of the saw will throw ferro rod sparks, but since you are against the spring, you have to be careful, I think some models you can use it closed. The awl on alox models works very well for this.

I use the awl on the Alox models as a light scraping tool, for example, to scrape that waxy stuff off of apples before washing them. On the cellidor models, I use the edge of the can opener for this; the awl that folds out from the back doesn't have enough space to allow it to be used like that. I also use the can opener to lightly hook and pull some things.

I use the bottle opener for light prying, and for light box opening (like cereal boxes). It easily zips open cereal-type boxes without damaging them so you can still reseal them.

I use the toothpick to pick lint out of the SAK's joints and innards.

What a great thread!

The awl works great for trimming the char in my pipe when needed. Many of you have already listed other uses I know of.

All in all the SAK rules! :D

The hook loosens wing nuts that are too tight for the fingers. The hook also opens up those tin can lid pill tabs that can't get your fingers underneath.

Oh, the eyeglass screwdriver that sits in the corkscrew should work decently releasing the quick connect tabs on the backside of electrical outlets.

I once used the sharp-ish can opener on my Vic Cybertool Lite to punch down about six racks worth of patch panels for new ethernet runs that were dropped on a day I was supposed to be on vacation. I've gone through three sheaths and need to repair/replace the current one because I hate not having this handy.

Other undocumented uses for this knife:

- Pin -> router reset tool
- Tweezers -> battery contact shim
- Hook -> helium balloon anchor
- Scissors -> compass
- Pliers -> personal grooming tool
- Awl -> impromptu personal defense weapon

This is what MacGyver would carry if he ever worked in a datacenter. :o

The "cuticle pusher"

is a terrible manicure tool but a useful peeler for oranges and other thick-skinned fruit.

The SwissFlame and CampFlame were introduced in 2002, discontinued in 2005, and never exported to the USA. They had a piezoelectric butane lighter.

What if they could be modified to discharge all the butane in one blast, like this Victorinox box art?

Wow, what a great self-defense mod! Put the Army back in SAK!

Also useful as a pill spatula (and cutter, with the thinness of the end), like many doctor's knives feature.

I think I need one of these. :o

You know, yesterday I used the flat head eyeglass screwdriver to turn a Phillips 1 screw. It fit well. Anyone else tried this?

Cellidor awl is the best damn nail scraper I know of. Either blade of the scissors is a close 2nd, LOL. The parcel hook is the champ for pulling loose the spring-loaded wire closure of my household A/C's uptake to replace the filter. The point on the can opener works well for most blister-packaging. Also, for opening taped boxes without risk of biting into the contents with the small blade. I've clamped a cigar between the dual-use opener and the scale on my Waiter, ala a giant roach-clip, LOL. Said Waiter lodges nicely down into my waistband keeping the keys at-the-ready.

I have used the Awl on my Tinker Sak to loosen knots on my show laces and on shopping bags.
