I just saw that Les is promoting a contest on www.spooferman.com/contest.php that may tickle the creativity (or funnybone) of soe of our WSS filmmakers. Here is the text:
We’re challenging true Survivorman fans, aspiring filmmakers, animators, creative thinkers and outdoor enthusiasts to create the Best Survival Fire Starting Spoof.

Here are the rules:

We’re looking for a maximum 5 minute video that showcases your Best Survival Fire Starting method in true Les Stroud-style. This means no matches, lighters or flamethrowers allowed. Bonus points will be given to those who incorporate Stroud’s Signature Self-Filming techniques.

And, of course, we’ve got prizes.


  • 1st Place - Fire Piston + Les' own magnesium striker + Survivorman swag
  • 2nd Place - Mag striker + Survivorman swag
  • 3rd Place – Survivorman Swag

Judging byt the amount of vids on the site, this type of contest is pretty popular. Personally im not a spoofer kind-of-guy, so ill pass on this comp.
 
I would like to try, but my film editting fu is very weak....

Great thing about Les is he never had ego issues. This sure as hell proves he is as willing to laugh at himself as is the next guy. Can't wait to see the results. I'm not very funny but I suppose making a vid of myself making a fire would constitute a spoof right there :D

Does that mean that I could use a flashlight and some newspaper? I can get flame in seconds with my brightest flashlight!
