Just a heads up for those of you who don't check the scrap yard forums - if you plan to get one of the new scrapper 5's, you better place the order soon. Dan will be stopping orders sometime in the next two days.

It's a "sticky" thread, which is both good and bad; it's at the top of the list, but people get used to ignoring the sticky section because it's usually just the "same old stuff". I missed Dan's notice thread until I read a saw a reference in bld522's "How many did you order" poll.

I really need to decide if I want this one or to wait for the scrapper 5 le. Times running down, should probably decide soon. And no I shouldnt get both lol.

Go for it! Diff treated SR-101 is sweet for this blade. If you don't get it you are running the risk that Dan doesn't get any infi for the LE and then you'll be stuck with 154 cm which isn't bad but it's not diff treated SR-101 :D

I am pretty sure the S5s are not differentially heat treated.

Still going to be a killer blade!

You're right. The regulator bowie announcement specifically stated that it would be differentially treated SR101, but the Scrapper 5 Combat Grade... SR101 post did not. However, in and of itself, that doesn't mean that the S5 must be be through-hardened, so I searched a bit more and found Scrapper 5... The Rest Of The Story where Dan specifically states:

Now, for some really exciting news about the Combat Grade Scrapper 5. It will be made out of through-hardened SR101!!! I am very excited about this steel for this model. It truly is the best steel choice for this blade in a coated version.

Oops...yeah I actually knew theat :o I guess I just got caught up in trying to convince veritas to get one that I accidentally embelished a little :foot:

lol very nice. Anyone know an approximate date when the LE's will be released. Im a student so I dont have much money and must choose wisely. If it does not turn out to be infi I guess I will wait for the busse family to put out a diff knife in a similar size, I can be patient for what I have heard about these knives.

SR-101 is no slouch - I've got a couple knives in both steels, and in normal usage, and even fairly abusive usage, I can see very little difference between the two.

Oh I am sure it is I think I partially just want to have an infi knife to say I have an infi knife. If a different knife is put out in one of their other steels of a design I like I will buy it for sure
