Less toys later in life?

Over the past half dozen years or so I've noticed a personal behavior trait in myself and my wife as well. We have got rid of a heck of alot of stuff that at one time ment alot to us. In my case, I've given to my kids and nephews, and sold to former co-workers (I'm now retired) most of my guns and high end knives. My wife has given her prized stuff to the kids, and her friends. We are going to sell our house in the next year or so to move to a smaller retirement place someplace south of here.

It seems as if the toys just don't mean as much, and we're just as happy at the range plinking with a couple of good .22's than the stuff we gave our children. I gave my high end watches to my two sons and now am very happy with a Timex Expedition in basic black plastic.

On the other hand we are traveling more than ever before, taking road trips in the Honda Element, camping out at National and state parks.

Any other "older" forum members here felt the same thing as you got on past the halfway point in life?

Yep - I seem to be "pruning." The attraction to buying the latest gadget has decreased considerably.

That said, the things I keep and use have become old friends, and I really enjoy them more that I used to.

I notice too that I seem to take more pleasure from simple and functional items, rather than cool and complicated.

For the last few years I have been doing the same thing. I just turned 52 and have been rearranging my priorities.I have four daughters and in two days my seventh grandchild will be born. We also have two young foster daughters that have been with us for almost two years.I have found shaping lives is the best use of my time..
I am an artist and sell expensive fossils.I am glad that there are people that buy until they die.
