I had pulled my EDC pack out of my car this summer with the intent of repacking it's loadout. Well, one thing after another and it ended up sitting in my living room until this week when I finally got to the repack job. I discovered that my two previously unopened bottles of aquamira drops had gotten so hot when I left my pack in the car that the seals and caps had failed and they'd mixed and then degraded the ziplock bag I put them in. I saw some discoloration on the pack (sadly a secondhand 1st Generation TAD fastpack) and thought no big deal, it's just another character mark. Unfortunately, when I started repacking my bag, the material and stitches in the stained area failed and now the bag has a hole where it shouldn't. I'm guessing the chlorine dioxide sat on the material long enough to degrade it. If you carry chemical water treatment, be careful not to let any get onto your pack and if you do, get it off as soon as possible.

I've had them fail too, not sure how but I pulled some out of storage, and the foil was rotted and the tablet was gone in a few sections, I think that any flaw in the foil will do them in. point is, keep an eye on all your gear, and check often!

Good that you checked, too bad it caused your pack damage.

I try to pull everything out of my bags at least twice a year and check everything for damage or replacement too. In the vein of "one is none and two is one" in addition to a bottle of water purification pills, I always carry a small "Straw"-type water filter.

That is one of the advantages of the MIOX unit form MSR. It makes up the chemicals when needed, nothing to spill.

Get a water purifying straw..they are cheap to buy and work great! but if you want to purify large volumes at once it wont work.
