I have participated on this site for nearly 14 years, so perhaps it is time to do something that hasn’t been done before, something fun, challenging and interesting for our entire knife community. Indeed I am banking on our network of collectors from around the globe to help us to pull this together.

In the best spirit of Jules Verne, I propose to challenge all of us to find a way to circumnavigate the globe by stopping at no more than 80 sequential locations, each of which must be associated with a specific bit of knife lore. This means that our path must cross the Prime Meridian and the Equator at least once and must cover all 360 degrees of globe before returning to our original staring point. To make this more interesting, we are going to limit the maximum distance between any of these points as follows:

1) Name a knife associated with the country in which the point is located and earn a 500-mile travel allowance. (For the sake of simplicity
all travel distances between points will be measured in straight lines).
2) Name a knife manufactured/made within the city where the point is located and you get an additional 500-mile travel allowance.
3) Post a photo of an example of this knife and earn an additional 200-mile allowance.

This means that the maximum allowable distance between any two points will range between 500 and 1,200 miles depending on how well we do, and the entire earned allowance must be taken in a single hop. So if you have earned the privilege to locate a point within a distance of 1,200 miles and elect one that is closer, you lose the extra travel allowance; which means that we will be crossing the near the Bering Strait and later on along the North Atlantic. So even though our circumference is only about 24,000 miles, we will not be able to travel a straight line along either the Equator or Prime Meridian.

Starting location: Our pack of adventurers will start and end their journey in Fulton, New York. (see our starting point in the post below)

Chatillon Marine Corps. bolo of WWII

Travel allowance earned:
Country: 500 miles
City: 500 miles
Photo: 200 miles

Total 1,200 miles

e.g. : The next player gets to pick the city of their choice within 1,200 miles of Fulton, New York (keep in mind we are trying to travel around the world so you may want to look at the fist transatlantic flight of the US Navy’s NC-4 in 1919 for inspiration). Hopefully, your choice will be or have been the home of a knife manufacturer and you will post a photo, so we can again earn the maximum 1,200-mile travel allowance.

Kinda close - The nearest airport to get there is St John's, Newfoundland Canada 1183.9 miles from Fulton NY. David is in Hants Harbour, about 42 miles northeast of St John's, which is where the Navy NC-4 landed.

So I'll stretch this a little bit as the city could be called a little vague and claim a 1200 mile allowance for the next leg. :D :D

Persepolis to Kabul about 1085 miles.

The knife - The Afghan Gurkha - similar to a Khukri/Kukri.
The Picture - Lots of them in a display case in Kabul

As a bonus, here're a couple of knives made by Jimmy Bedgood, currently of Florida. He made them somewhere in Afghanistan while deployed there back in 2010. The second one bears a resemblance to the Gurkha

Kabul Afghanistan to Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, India - 893.8 miles

The Rampuri Chaku - a switchblade knife made infamous in India movies. Manufacture is nearly extinct- down from over 700 makers to less than 80 makers since the Indian government banned knives longer than 10.5 cm, and being replaced in movies with chains, and other items as the weapon of choice of the bad guys.
