For the last three months, I've been waiting for a two knives from the custom shop. Back in January, I sent back a KOA CS112 for two reasons but mainly because the wood was extremely blackened with buffing rouge but it was also supposed to have rivets but did not (if it was just a rivet issue, I'd have kept it). So in mid-Feb, the 110 was ready but I asked that it be mailed when the jigged buffalo 112 was ready as the replacement to the KOA knife. So about a week ago, I called because it seemed like a really long wait and found things to be in a little bit of a flux there.

Anyway, a replacement knife 112 was made but smooth buffalo. I had originally order a smooth buff w/o rivets but got one with rivets which I liked so much I ordered the matching 110. So, I got an email today from Liz with this picture below. I said I did already have a smooth buff; however, that thing was just to pretty to say no too so its my replacement knife.

Now here's the kicker, Liz said her boss wanted me to have the 110 without charge for all the trouble. Well I said I really wasn't put out about it and I thought it was too much of a gesture. She insisted and I am fairly week and feeble minded when comes to saying no to Buck knives. So these two will be on the way shortly along with a new ATS-34 NS ELK with Rivets I ordered last week. I do have the pleasure of paying for that one. ;)

What a company...I was already a loyal Buckaroo but now...what can I say. Buck Knives is a great customer service company making a terrific product and every knife person in America should own more than one.:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Gordon, you're preaching to the choir so to speak.:D
After my latest experience with the people at Buck, I'm a Buck Company fan for life! I was already a big fan of their products, but their customer service and concern for their customers is second to none.

Very nice!

I really need to order from the custom shop when my wallet is fatter.

Those are beauties .... Ya can't beat a gesture like that to keep a person happy.

Re: The CS, my recent experience was less than I had expected..
I posted about 2 110's I sent in a while back. One was a fg that I just wanted to have the bolsters polished on and a 2 dot that was rough on opening...
When it was all said and done, it was about 6 weeks turn around, and the work was not what I had expected. The bolsters have what look like sanding marks on them, not fully polished and each knife has one bolster that didn't get done

Its not a crisis, both are going to be users anyway. Joe told me there were some issues with some changes that were being made.

Almost forgot, I'm lookin forward to seeing your NS elk you ordered.
ATS-34 ???? :D

338,
My group has taken over the customer rework and it looks like we missed it. Send it in to my attn, and I'll get it corrected quickly.

Buck is the best knife co.out there imho.I don't knowm of anyone thats talked with a Buck company person and not felt like part of their family afterwards.seriously, thats how i felt after speaking to Sara Buck.I ordered a custom 110 years ago,and I got the knife quickly, and was never even charged for it.My credit card was not charged,so i had to call and see why, turns out they shipped it out and had no record of my order?just a ship to addy.

Sara was impressed somebody would bother to call and ask why they weren't charged, and then pay for the knife.LOL.

I said to her that just like Buck is an HONEST company,so are many of the customers.LOL.She was a very nice person to talk to.

Thanks Buck!

Making mistakes expensive and painful is a great incentive to not make them again in the future...and for sure not burdening customers when we mess up.

Rest assured that we do not want to go around giving away free knives so getting things right and turned around quickly is all part of our "flawless execution" focus. We even have Value Stream Managers (Jeff Hubbard) checking in as well which was good to see.

Thanks FL for starting this thread. Very nice.

ATS-34 ????

I happen to like ATS-34 blades and talked to Pete about it when I order the 5 CS112s back in Oct. He said they did have some unused ATS-34 from way way back that he thought was going to be used to make 110 blades for use in the Custom Shop.

When I decided to order the Elk knife I asked Liz if it was available and she got back with me and said it was indeed and so that's what I decided to have on this knife.

Thanks FL for starting this thread. Very nice.

My pleasure CJ. People really need to know that your customer service is 2nd to none in the knife world. And thanks for that beautiful smooth buff 110. I think I'll have to order something really fancy next go around in a month or two.

Thanks for the offer Jeff, I truly appreciate it. Sorry it took me a while to see this.

As I have mentioned before, its not a big deal and I understand that things happen. I don't want anyone to think I'm badmouthing Buck because of my last experience.
I know for fact that Buck goes out of its way to keep customers happy, because Joe went above and beyond what anyone could have expected with an issue I had last year with a knife..
It may not have been a big thing to him, but it is something I will never forget.

Sorry Gordon, didn't mean to derail your thread

I was not happy with my 850 Bravo-turkey last fall - and have communicated that here before. In fairness, the dealer sent me a second one, obviously with some of the same design/construction faults. I never elected to return it to Buck - and went ahead and gave it to my son for Christmas - he loved it! I had also bought a second BCCI/BG-42/G10 110 at a great price for him - when he announced he didn't care that much for the earlier 110s I had given him - so I kept it for myself - and found it to have undersized scales and a stiff action - back to Buck for a fast replacement. My gripe here was the return s/h cost - and how something in a black box should have had a cursory inspection - which would have stopped it's being placed in stock.

Now, that's my gripes - but both were likely a result of their downsizing of the last year - re-assigning folks, etc. My CS experience - and general production experience - with Buck has been exemplary. They are humans working there - very nice ones, for that matter. Their work there for the most part is so far above the competition, we (Okay, I...) get to expecting it 100% of the time. Mr. Buck, you have a top-drawer company - my hat's off to you... and my wallet still empties in your direction!

Oh, if I can gripe about the 850, I must certainly sing the virtues of the real hit I found - the 347 Vantage Pro - what a deal! THANK YOU!!

No Problem. Just signed in for the first time in a week. I've been traveling down south visiting family and friends. I brought my Vantage Pro along and everyone is impressed with it.

Last week-end, I spent with my old college buddy and his family and we hit his hunting clubs 40 acre lake to thin the herd out. 46 big bluegills, 34 LMB, 18 crappie. I didn't fish for the BGs and my buddy finially went to the 1/8th oz rattle trap too when we found the crappie. All that made for a nice fish fry. My friend is the only one fishing the lake so the bass needed to come out and the crappie are considered undesirables in that small lake so I was glad to help. Used the Vantage to score the bream for skinning.

I then spent the week with my parents just visiting. Dad's 70 now and I enjoy helping him with little projects like pullling tires of his trailer (gone flat and dry rot) he bought years ago to haul the four wheelers/mower. Anyway, he's had a 2 acre pond built in the fall of 2007 and stocked in the spring of 2008 with coppernose and channel cats. The F1's went in in the fall. So this the first time I've been back with a coppernose full grown and catchable. All good fun, esp watching the little cousins (my 1st cousins kids) squealling with a big bull BG.

Right now I'm sitting drinking coffee in the lobby of the Marriott down on Canal street in New Orleans. I had to stuff my face with crawfish and oysters yesterday. Also, clipped Harrah's for enough to order a new stag/damascus. Maybe I will.

So, having a great time. This is the first time I've got to run around in shorts and T's and no socks. Maine is great but spring in the deep south is wonderful esp when its your home turf.:D

Sounds like you're havin a great time ...

Reading about all the bluegill and crappie you caught made me really hungry. I haven't had any of those for quite some time.

Buck is a great company for two main reasons....GREAT people..for example CJ,Chuck,Joe,Sara and the simple fact that God is a partner and the company is run by and on Christan princeplies ....That last stament might not be polictaly correct in this day and age but it sure explains the many reasons Buck is different....And why it is still here AND doing good when so many others have failed.....

Things like this are why I make it a point to buy a Buck knife every couple of months. I haven't brought in anything through the Custom Shop yet, but I'm sure when I do it'll be right. Buck's got some, well, odd designs out now, but there's enough to choose from to keep me happy for a while. And their customer service has been stellar, both times that I've had to call them.

Back in the early 80's, my grandmother let me buy my first fixed blade, a Buck 119. Buck's been my "first love" ever since. (Sappy, I know, but oh well...) My grandmother thought highly of the brand then, and she was happy I bought one. It meant a lot to me to have that trust, so the Buck brand represents a big sentimental reminder to me of that time. Funny as it seems, her letting me buy that knife was a huge boost to my self esteem, when I needed it most. Those were good days...

Okay, sappy reminiscing is over. Everybody back to work. :D

thx - cpr

ps - my only real gripe with Buck is you guys discontinued the 307 Wrangler. :grumpy:
