ok basically i cut open some bags of granular chlorine at work a week ago and then yesterday realized my blade had rusted, no big deal just toss it but the piece that holds the blade (housing, casing what ever you want to call it) has goten a wee bit of rust. the front to it wouldnt be hard to clean off but how would i go about cleaning it if it got in side (not sure if it did)?

thanks

Depending on the materials used to make it a diluted muriatic acid bath usually removes rust quite well, but it will destroy aluminum and some other materials.

hmm as far as i know its all SS.

would there be anything wrong with using muriatic acid if the rust was casued my chlorine (i know you cannot mix muriatic and chlorine but not sure if there would be chlorine left in the rust?).

is there anything a little more easy to get (i mean i can always just jank a little from work but idk if my manager will be cool with it or not)

isnt there that stuff called naval jelly or something like that cleans rust off and protects steel from it?

Naval jelly is phosphoric acid in a gel. A weak acid it will remove minor rust ,it won't protect the steel .Soak in naval jelly [try a hardware store] ,rinse thouroughly ,dry ,oil lightly.

i asked my dad about naval jelly and luckly he has some but he mentioned it turned the rust into a black metal stuff. what is that and how do u remove it?

Any acid will remove rust fairly well, if it's SS mild abrasives in a dremel like a brass or SS bristle brush does a pretty good job

can i use just vinegar?

the big issue im seeing is that the place that holds the blade is a solid piece of stock that has a slit in it (its a gerber superknife) so its really hard to get inside with anything solid
