Don't be fooled by the picture. This is one of the nastiest village models I have seen in some time. Gelbu told me he had to clean it up in BirGorkha to get it clean enough to ship and this is why it looks good. It is about 13.5 inches long, a shade over 3/8 thick, and weighs in at about a pound and two ounces. It looks pretty good but this is the kind of khukuri a poor Nepali farmer would buy. It has a partial tang (don't be fooled by the buttcap and what looks like the tang peened over -- it is a ploy used for export khukuris of this type) and there is a fold line on the edge of the left side of the blade. But the damned thing is hardened up to maybe 58 - 59 Rc and is tough! It will take a lot of abuse before the handle starts to loosen and you will have a very difficult time if you want to bend or break this blade.
Despite its shortcomings this knife is going to do a lot of work.
Karda and chakma are useless. The scabbard and frog are made by BirGorkha and are better than most but not up to the sarki with no name standards.
Take this rig for $24.95 delivered to your door. This just about covers shipping and handling cost from Nepal to me and then to you. This khukuri should have stayed on the farm in Nepal.
Call or email if you want this nasty little villager.
