I spent the weekend with my girlfriend in Letchworth State Park, camping and taking in the sights. We had a great time and took a ton of pictures! :)

Here's a view of the middle falls, the tallest waterfall in the park.

Letchworth is known as "The Grand Canyon of the East"

More pics to come...

We spotted some staghorn sumac on the riverbank just above the falls.

The best thing about car camping: the food! :D Jen gave me thisa dutch oven set for Christmas. It's pretty great.

Dinner day 1: apple chicken sausages w/green peppers, spicy spanish rice, italian bread and hot Irish tea.

Saturday's breakfast was hash browns, sweet sausage patties, and eggs to order. I brewed some hazlenut coffee in our little aluminum kettle. The best way to start the day!

Flip the oven lid down, and you've got a frying pan.

Here's the knives we took along. They all saw some use. Top to bottom: Leatherman Wave, Becker BK11, Becker BK13, Landi Knives PSK, Blind Horse Knives Boat Tail Scandi, Case Drop Point Hunter, and an old (1945-1965 era) Case Serpentine Jack.

Here I am carving a pot lifter with my hatchet. The stick is from a pear tree in my father's yard.

Here's my ALICE pack, boy scout hatchet, and some of my reading material for the trip.

All in all, we had a blast! Jen says she'll go camping again and again, as long as I promise to do all the cooking! :D

We'll be back! :)

The waterfalls are spectacular. I definitely need to take a trip there at some point.

My friend has a Landi PSK, but is got orange G10 and a stainless? blade. Not sure if its stainless or not, but it hasn't taken a patina yet. Nice pics. B Cool. Moose

I love that Landi knife. It's my every day belt knife and sees plenty of use. I got the dark patina with Frank's Red Hot.

The park has three sets of watherfalls, these are the tallest. The others are great too, but we didn't put in the trail time to see them this trip. Not to mention miles of river canyon. Come on up, you're sure to enjoy yourself.

John great stuff. I am glad Mary and I got to catch up with you at the park and meet Jen. You do need to bring her to the gathering next year. I had a great time at the stone tool show as well. Doug

Looks like a great trip! Good to see the book, knives, axes and practicing the skills. Thanks for sharing...it's a beautiful time of year.

Beautiful pics of the falls. Looks like I might have to check that place out sometime in the future.

Great photo's John!
Looks like you had some fun.
If you're into the Gorges, there are plenty more as you drive east below the lakes, Some well known and some not. The Watkins Glen Gorges are quite awesome in their own right. We have some smaller ones here, where i live, near Ithaca... whose slogan is "Ithaca Is Gorges".

I love Ithaca! Plus, the drive from here to there takes you through the heart of the Finger Lakes wine country.
