LOL! This should be good!

I am 100% certain that NOBODY would want hear my wife's opinion about my knife stuff.

More often than once, while working on the illustrations for my books,
I would create a beautiful page combining several knives into what I felt
is a perfect illustration. My excitement was so great that even though it
could be 03:00 AM, I would wake my wife to come and see....

She mentions these incidents quite often (with a loving smile) when talking
about my enthusiasm and creative excitement while making my books
on modern custom knives....

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

I don't want Tanya posting in this thread. Talk about critique that could make a grown man cry.

Oh man, I should call my recent ex girlfriend who wishes I had spent more knife money on her. That automatically makes her unable to appreciate them as I do. If she came on here, forget it. We would all probably cry.

I'm in Reno on business, and the wife is back home....but

She supports me in this. I'm doing my first show, and she is sewing a table cloth to custom fit the table size (8' x 30"). She went out and purchased all the material and is arranging my table design. She is putting my name on the top of the table cloth, and putting trim around it. She basically has said, "If you're going to do this, let's do it right." She doesn't critique my knives too much, since she knows very little about knives. She just tells me which ones are her favorites.

I would enjoy nothing more than have my spousal unit log in and have her express her feelings about my so called addition illness lunacy hobby, but I prefer to keep her busy washing and ironing my clothes and in the kitchen fixin' me sammiches. :D

I wan't able to start making knives until AFTER I was divorced.....nuff said. My current girlfriend is an artist/artisan of sorts (jewelry, painting, drawing) and she is still creeped out a little bit by my particular art form....lol

My wife could care less about my knives, guns, cars or whatever. She hikes with me, 4 wheels with me and goes to all the knife shows. But she could care less, to her I'm just entertaining myself and she's having fun watching.

Holy crap, you are a brave man! You had better hope she never logs in or your ironed clothes will all be "mistakenly" put in with a bright red towel and you'll be snugglin up to a pink blanket on the couch.

Seriously, though, your post made me spit out my coffee! :D:D:D

My fiancee encourages my knifemaking and "tolerates" my love for firearms.

One story I have was down at a Hammer-In in Bedford, MA (IG's). At the end, some wives and girlfriends showed up to watch the cutting competition. One saw me shaving some hair off my hand to prove it was still shaving sharp after the 2X4 cutting, and I swear all of them in unison said something to the effect of "oh my god, my guy has shaved hands as well" and they all laughed. I think the wives would have a great time making fun of us...my fiancee's favorite thing is to point out all the ferric cloride stains on my clothing. She swears I have gone through my entire wardrobe and dripped one spot of it on every pair of pants I own.

That was from my daughter Demi. She's 3 and yes she's female. So there we have it, our first comments from a female perspective. Those are the three words she can type on her own. Really powerful and a good perspective, don't you think? :)

I don't think I would want my wife posting here about what she thinks of me , but I do know that she likes knives to a certain extent and figures that I could be spending the money on much worse things.

Josh, that is a fine perspective indeed. Those three words do tell a lot about what is important in Demi's world.

lol Josh maybe you should let Jodi teach the kids spelling you are not doing so well at it.:D

If my Fiancee says negative things about my knifemaking, I show her this, and she understands and says "oh, i forgot"

There may be dishes to wash and laundry to do but since I have a few moments of time before our five year old som comes home with a friend to trash the house,... let me share my thoughts on my husband's love of knives. The number one thing is, it keeps him out of trouble! (and focused on knives!) Honestly though, the knives he works with are all so beautiful. In my eyes, I see them as art work with a bit of danger. I feel like one of the lucky few to be able to view and enjoy this.
These forums add another dimension of humor and conversation to our relationship. So all is good. Just don't get ME hooked to these forums!....Thanks for including me, "the WIFE" here. Keep up the humor!
Sincerly,
Susan Cooper (Sharpbycoop.com)

We're not married, but I have a partner, lover, and friend (yes - all in the same person) who's the mother to my son, so I guess it amounts to the same. She didn't really like the knife collection at first, but she's getting used to it. She only likes super clean, unadorned knives, e.g., the Tim Wright folders.

When Todd and I went out on our second or third date he brought me a thigh dagger as a gift...I knew then there was something different about this guy. Got married, fast forward five years later, he calls me on the way to his job, an hour commute, and says he would like to put in his notice and make knives full time. No plan, no savings, no idea what the hell we were doing, just a burning desire and a need to fufill his dream.....I said sure...its just money. Well, that was two weeks before Thanksgiving, five years ago....and its the last time I saw a steady, consistent paycheck! and I don't care. He is happy, and I am happy.

I like knives, I have learned WAAAAYYYY more than I thought I needed to in one life time...the bottom line is, I LOVE my husband, I adore him, think he is the funniest, smartest, sexist, sweetest, toughest, strongest man I know and whatever is his passion and makes him happy, I support with all my heart and soul. I'm not a woman into material things, lucky for Todd, but I believe in pursuing things in life that you are passionate about, or else whats the point of living??

Since Todd went full time, I have plunged into the world of cutlery, and in particular the business aspect of it,as I am pretty vested in keeping that roof over my head, I have made some incredible friends and believe that some of the best people in the world are knifemakers and collectors. I LOVE the shows, as I am a people person, and have deep admiration for those who have the balls to put their wares out there for all the world to gawk at.

I have even bought a custom knife or two.....but I am too tight fisted right now to let our hard earned money go to luxury items right now, hopefully that will change .........besides, got my eye on a new surface grinder and lathe....priorities!!!

Tanya Begg, wife.

I think we can all agree that our wives and signifcant others must be special. Not many women would put up with our hobby, support our making or collecting, or allow bowies to be laying around the house.
