My wife and I had an opportunity to head up to the north Georgia mountains this week for a little fresh mountain air. This gave me the perfect opportunity to have some fun with the new Handyman that I was fortunate to snag a few weeks ago:

Given the proximity of our cabin to a trail system I decided to play around getting a walking stick set up:

Here is the finished project:

This new design from Andy begs a comparison to both a Hiking Buddy and a KE Bushie:

As you can see, the height of the palm swell resembles the KE Bushie, which provides for a very comfortable grip. While the length of the handle at the centerline is 4" on both the Hiking Buddy & the Handyman, due to the angle cut of the handle at the ricasso, the Handyman offers an additional 1/4" of length where the fingers curl around the handle. This will provide an extra measure of security for anyone with larger hands or fat fingers.

IMO this model is destined to become a hot item in the Fiddleback lineup. It was no surprise to learn that Andy had included a couple of these knives in his mix to submit for consideration by The Guild. As we look to what the future may bring I sincerely hope that he will also offer this knife with a scandi ground blade.

Join me in celebrating this new model by posting pics of your Handman at work !

I'm very into the Handyman right now. I think its my best design. But I usually feel that way when the design is fresh. Love those pics Peter. Thanks for posting them.

The HB and the KEB are two of my favorite Fiddlebacks. I am really looking forward to getting a Handyman when I get a chance. I think it looks like an awesome little knife.

Thanks for posting the Peter! I love seeing pics of new models and I especially like to see them compared to the classics. I am very excited to get my hands on a handyman sometime soon. The one you got is a looker!

WE'll definitely make some w Scandi grinds. It'd be a great knife in 3/32" thick w a Scandi.

This thread is definitely getting hopes up on thin scandi's. Especially on a great mid-sizer like the Handyman.

I'm curious to hear from Handyman owners.
What characteristics, if any, do you prefer over the Hiking Buddy?

Thanks for the great write up Peter! I suspect the Handyman might just be the perfect field dressing knife for me. I will be using a Hiking Buddy this year but I feel the Handyman might just be a slightly better option after reading Peter's comparison and seeing the subtle differences.

some photos of my 5/32" TT Handyman .. with a 3/16" TT Hiking Buddy as comparison. The handle on my Handyman is thicker and more round than this Hiking Buddy. As you can see, there's less material at the front of the handle in comparison to the HB - but more at the palm swell and more towards to the butt/lanyard. The handle is also slightly longer than the HB .. and the closed hand pics show more of the bullseye on the HM than HB.
