Lets hear some good ghost stories for Halloween!

I'll go first. My father bought some upholstery tools for his business several years ago at an auction. The owner had died and the wife was selling off the business. Well, after my father bought the tools, he began feeling like somebody was standing next to him at work, even late at night. Sometimes, after spending the night drinking, I would sleep in my fathers office at his shop. I would hear someone in the shop in the middle of the night, and would hear someone talking if I was in the bathroom. Well, I talked to my father about this, and he said don't worry about him. It was just the old man trying to use his tools. My father sometimes prays for assistance in his work, and sometimes he feels like the old man is right there directing him in difficult jobs. My father is not a superstitious man, although he doesn't place any limitations on God, and I feel that he doesn't say stuff like this lightly. At least the old man stays at my fathers shop, not like the ghost that came with my parents dining room table...

Here is the story I tell my youngest brother every year at Halloween:
Once upon a time, dude, there were, like, these scientist lab coat dudes, and they were like, lets clone George Washington for Halloween. Because he totally was the coolest president ever. Dude.
Where was I? Oh yeah.
So, like, they were like, dude, where do we get his DNA and cells and stuff? So they were like, EBAY! and they totally bought one of his teeth on eBay and tried to clone him from it.
The only problem was, like, George Washington had wooden teeth. Dude. So they got a giant wooden George Washington, and man he was pissed. He was like as evil as the real George Washington is good, I mean was, dude. So totally evil. Like, he would cut down people and then lie about it, like as revenge and stuff for the cherry tree thing? And then he stole all the land from the giant wooden Indians. Not cool dude. Then when he calmed down he sprouted these gigantic leaves, that made you mad funky when you smoked them.
What was I talking about again?

I first heard this story, or something like it, a few years ago in a webcomic. So its not completely my invention.

At my previous job we had a 'ghost'.
The building was built back in the 30's and had held many previous business's before it was re-modeled into a sports bar/casino.
It had been a bar named Duke's right before that and the downstairs basement which was huge and furnished had a old reputation of a place where one could "acquire" female companionship if so desired.
Anyways , my office and workspace was down in that basement. I spent many hours down there working on various projects.
At first I was pretty freaked out about being the only person down in that huge area , but I soon enjoyed the privacy as I could crank my music and smoke while I worked and nobody tripped out.
In all that time I never heard or saw anything off the wall , although others like the kitchen staff rumored that they had seen shadows or heard wierd noises when I wasnt there.
I'm a pretty superstisious person and I knew that if I let that get to me that I wouldnt be bale to work alone down there so I let it go as much as I could.
Anyways the casino closed for various reasons and the old owners bought it back and re-opened into a sports bar/nightclub , being a loyal and trustworthy kinda guy I was not only asked to stay on , but made a manager as well.
We were closed for about 2 months during remodeling and getting our plan in action.
It was during that time of being closed that things got wierd.
Auggie was our live in security guard , it was him that started saying he heard things at night when we were all gone , things like footsteps and pounding sounds , of course coming from the basement.... This at first really freaked me out but , like I said I had not only my office down there but work to do as well.
I tried my best not to think about it and for the most part , succeeded , for a little while.
One day while talking to the Bud delivery guy , a stack of plastic disposable cups came rollin down the stairs , I made a joke to him about "dont worry that's just our ghost" thinking it was Auggie playing a joke on me , 10 or so seconds later another stack come down , the Bud guy gets all wide eyed and I run upstairs to bust Auggie at his joke only to find nobody there....
This kind of stuff continued off and on , small things that a lot of folks wouldnt notice.
One of the cooks , a Mexican guy quit because he said that he saw too many shadows near the kitchen which was also downstairs.
We eventually nicknamed 'it' Casper.
'It' never really messed with me too much , maybe it liked me cause I was down in the basement so much , playing music and so forth.
I tried to enquire the history of the place but it had gone thru so many owners that it was near impossible , one old guy told me that a few people over the years had died there , one from a heart failure and one from breaking his neck falling down the stairs.

Crazy stuff , indeed.

I got one more but lunch calls so I'll post it later.

A few years ago I worked for a while in an excellent pub in Leeds, all my pals drank there, the beer was first rate and the place was a really great live music venue. In common with many traditional English pubs the place was made up of several small but cosy rooms the largest was where the bands played, the smallest being the "snug" and it really was small, about 8'x12' it was separated from the bar area by one door providing the only way in or out. You could see into the snug by means of a lovely stained glass partition window that ran almost the length of the small room.
One evening after my shift was done I was sitting at the bar having a drink with the landlady's brother and one of the regulars, apart from us three the pub was empty, as we chatted I happened to look up in the direction of the snug in time to see a figure traverse the length of the window, faintly luminescent and of generally human outline. I knew for certain that the snug was empty, It was generally the last room that I cleared up; lights out, door firmly shut.
I think that I said something like; "WHATTHEFUCKWASTHAT??", told the lads what I'd seen then we all agreed to take a look in the snug. Nothing. Turns out other people had seen/heard strange things.
My view of this sort of stuff is essentially Fortean in character, I don't come down on the side of science or superstition, I saw something uncanny which I'm at a loss to explain, I'm happy with that. OOOO-EEEEE-OOOO!!!

One night about two years ago I was awake reading in my room,The only people living at my house are my mom and dad and they're in bed,I know this because their door faces mine. All of the sudden I hear footsteps downstairs. They went through my kitchen, through my living room, along the stairs, through the hall and stopped at our bathroom.
KA-BAR,9mm and my MAG light.I woke up my dad and we swept our house top to bottom but we didn't find a freekin thing.
This is only one of the MANY spooky stories that have taken place in my house.

My one and only “ghost story.”

In July 1995 my wife and I were staying at a very nice B & B style hotel in Ventura, California. It is called the Bella Maggiore. It’s a beautiful Italian / Mediterranean themed hotel, with richly detailed rooms – crown molding, the works.

The hotel is also purported to be haunted with the ghost of a young woman named Sylvia. As it turns out, she was a woman of questionable repute that lived in the house that was turned into the hotel. That had been in the 1910's or 1920's. Rumor had it that she hanged herself in a closet. During the restoration / remodeling, this closet became part of room 17.

The majority of the incidents involving her take place in or around, you guessed it, room 17. But lots of other places as well. She has been known to make the hallway lights flicker, and prevent doors from being opened. Sometimes there is an overpowering presence of rose perfume. Nothing real sinister, mostly just mischievous little pranks.

My parents used to love to stay there. They actually witnessed one of Sylvia’s pranks. They were in the lobby when another hotel guest complained to the Manager that her door wouldn’t open. The Manager accompanied the guest back to their room (and my parents tagged along.) The manager tried the key in the lock (one of those electronic locks that gives you a green light when the lock opens.) He got the green light, but the door wouldn’t budge. He tried a few times, all with the same result. Finally, he said out loud “Sylvia, knock it off!” He then tried the door again, and it opened.

When we stayed, we happened to get room 17 – Sylvia central! The room had just been remodeled. The dresser drawers had ball bearing slides that made a distinctive “tic – tic – tic – tic" when opened.

About 3:00 am, I was having difficulties sleeping. As I lay in bed, in the completedy darkened room, I heard open of the dresser drawers slowly open, then close. That really woke me up!

If you do a google search on “Bella Maggiore Ventura Ghost” you’ll find numerous accounts of interactions with Slyvia. Including some EVP recordings.

I don't know whether this counts as a ghost story but i once saw a girl get exorcised at my house. She was 12 and her parents were really desperate as she had been acting rather strange lately. She started eating like a barbarian, she suddenly spoke arabic which is a language not taught in schools and some other stuff as well.

Well, the day she was exorcised my parents had a religious class and my dad's teacher does this sort of thing all the time. So much so that people sometimes fly him around the world to help out, even non-muslims. Anyway, that day her parents were so desperate that they wanted help and they just dropped by my house since the teacher was there. Being that he never turns anyone down in their time of need he decided to help. It was in our living room. Everyone was there, my whole family i think and my dad's friends. Everyone sat on the floor, the girl was sitting down with her legs straight ahead. Supposedly, that's how they take out whatever possesses a person. From the legs.

What freaked me out was how this girl was talking in a different tone of voice. The teacher was talking to this other person, not the girl. Definitely not her and her legs were shaking quite bad. At one point during the whole 'procedure' she turned and looked at our way (me and my cousins were observing). The look in her eyes was not of a child. It's like it wasn't from her. It was weird 'cos she was talking as another person. And that person/thing was refusing to leave her body.

Finally, he got the thing out but that night i had nightmares. I had never believed in things like this and before that i always wanted to see something like that. But now i never want to go through that experience again. I would have had my doubts if it had been an adult. But this was a child. No way she could suddenly speak arabic and no child is that great an actor to pull that off.

Anyway, i've always been rather annoyed that those people brought her to my house. And i kind of regret watching it. I would have preferred to stay a sceptic.

I had a real scare once when I was a kid. I started to wake up in the middle of the night and looked towards the middle of the room just in time to see a pale hand slowly come down, index finger extended, and touch my pillow. Then it slowly withdrew. A second later, I felt somebody sit on my bed. Well, it was a man's hand and I knew it wasn't my Dad (who was working the graveyard shift for the CHP). Scared out of my wits, I was able to look down the bed a little and see a man was sitting there, wearing a red plaid shirt. I was far too scared to look at his face though, I think I would have died if I saw his face. A few minutes (and about a hundred years) later, he got up and walked out of the room, and I heard his footsteps go through the kitchen and into the living room and just stop.

I was convinced it was a ghost until many years later I read up on sleep paralysis, old hag phenomena and hypnagogic/hypnopompic hallucinations. But Jesus it seemed as real as hell at the time.

My childhood house in Kennesaw GA, we found out, was built beside a very old grave yard.

The land for the grave yard was made by digging graves on top of an even older indian (Native American) burrial ground.

That grave yard became known historically because of the markers in it, and also because it was still in regular use.

A few of us kids wrote about it (foxfire kind of publication) and we thought it did some good.

Was it haunted? I think so.
Were we all at peace with each other? I think so.

A ghostly tale of Washington DC circa 1979.

President Carter is trying to fall asleep in the White House but to no avail with all the issues facing him. As he lays there, a ghostly figure materializes out of thin air. As it takes shape into human form it becomes clear that it is the ghost of Theodore Roosevelt. "Mr. President," the ghost calls out "I have sensed your unease from the great beyond and am here to help. What is troubling you?"

"Well Mr. President," Carter replies, "those Soviets have invaded Afghanistan and are destabilizing the region." "So" says Teddy, "have you sent the fleet over to the Gulf and landed the Marines?" "No," replies Jimmy, "I boycotted the Olympic games."

Teddy's ghost, somewhat taken aback by this answer, says "ahem..well...what else is troubling your Mr. President?" Carter replies "those students in Iran have seized our embassy in Tehran and are holding all our diplomats hostage." "Aha" says Roosevelt, "I know you have sent the Marines in for this one!" "Well, no" admits Jimmy "I froze their assets here in America."

At this point Roosevelt's ghost is getting pretty red in the face, no small feat for a ghost, and says "well my word, Mr. President, I suppose next you're going to tell me you gave away the Panama Canal!" and vanishes in a puff of smoke. :p

Just this past summer me and two other friends were at the house that my parents just purchased. It is an small, old house that needs alot of work. there was an old man who lived their alone before who had died on his bed. (im not sure what caused his death) so we were in the kitchen, the only room with a light on, and i see a beige figure "run" from the bathroom into the dark living room. (the two rooms are right next to each other). I saw the figure for probably one second. Thinking it was my friend shawn, i run over to where i saw it and peek my head into the pitch black living room and said "shawn what the hell are you doing?" only then realizing that shawn wasnt even at my house anymore because he went to drive some other friends home. By that time one of my friends realized that he too saw the figure and that shawn had left and we all began freaking out and ran into my hunting lodge, looking into the house windows to see if we could see anything moving, but we didnt. We were all pretty spooked so once shawn came back we all left.
A couple times me and my friends have heard banging in the basement too which freaked us out. Im not really a spirital or religious person but ibut all this ghost stuff is a little freaky.

For the last 17 1/2 years up until May, I lived in a 14th century watermill and Inn. Courtesy of copy and paste.

As far as the ghosts are concerned we have a few! One seems to frequent the bar, you just catch a glimpse of something out of the corner of your eye, although a few years ago my stepdaughter was working in the bar one Sunday evening and thought everyone was out of the bar. She turned the lights off, and headed for the kitchen and as she went past the door to the toilets, the door opened all the way open, (it has a spring closer and doesn't open easily). Thinking she had locked someone in, she said 'sorry, I thought every one was out', the door closed, so she went into the toilets and there was no one there. All the windows were closed and there was no wind. She never worked Sunday nights again!

In one of the flats there is a ghost that turns on lights during the night. One guest was sitting on the end of the bed putting her make up on and saw someone go into the bathroom, she thought it was one of her children and asked if they were OK. There was no reply and when she went into the bathroom there was no one in the bathroom. One night during her stay, when she woke up, all the lights were on in the lounge, even a table standard lamp, and the lights were on in the hallway and the bathroom. One of my staff stayed there, and when she woke up, the light in the hallway was on. She thought I had done it as a prank, (I hadn't), and she didn't mention it for months, thinking I would own up!

In August 2001, I had a very level headed gentleman called Graham who works in the IT department of the Bank of England. He has stayed here on two other occasions, and in the first week in August he stayed here with his two sons who are 16 and 20. They stayed in Flat 4 and had an enjoyable week. a week later, he stayed here with his wife in the Bridal suite which is next door to Flat 4 also in the 14th century part of the Inn. My wife asked if anything odd had happened while he stayed in Flat 4 of an unusual nature. He said 'funny you should say that'. Apparently, on one occasion, they went to bed, and when they woke up the front door was wide open and the window in the twin bedded room was open. On another morning, they woke up and all the lights were on in the lounge, hall, bathroom and toilet, even the standard lamp in the lounge. During one night, Graham woke up, alone in the double bedded room and was freezing cold and he recalled seeing his frosty breath when he breathed out. This is a week of the best weather we have had all year with high daytime temperatures, and mild nights.

The best incident was in my own accommodation, the 16th Century mill house, I woke up one morning as it was getting light and saw someone standing in front of the mirror with a cigarette in their hand clasping their forehead as though they had a really bad headache. I thought it must be my wife and asked if she was OK, there was no answer, so I said 'Ann, are you all right', the person didn't move, so I looked to my left and Ann was in bed next to me. When I looked up the person was gone. I did actually think that it looked like a man, in fact like me, but I don't smoke. Of course I thought it could only be my wife. I sat up in bed looking at the mirror and the dressing table, to see if there was anything that could have made me think there was a person there, but there wasn't anything. Ann had cancer at that time, and died about 6 months later.

My late wife was a very psychic lady, and on a number of nights, we lay in bed and could hear what sounded like a man and a woman whispering in the loft of the Mill, and one night, the sound of a door latching, but there is no door in the loft!

My friend Dennis bought a house about 10 years ago. It was next door to the house he grew up in. We knew the former owners who built the house in '47 They both died in the house. In about 1990 the wife woke up one morning and her husband (who was in his 80's) had died during the night. About 5 hears later the wife had a stroke when she was walking down the steps on the back porch. Nobody found her for about 3 hours, She expired waiting for the ambulance.

So anyway Their children were eager to get rid of the house and wanted to see it go to someone young and with a family so they sold it to my friend fairly cheap.

Fast foreward 6 months, I am over at Dennis's house and we are watching Hockey night in Canada. I hear sounds like kids wrestling upstairs. Dennis has 2 boys 5 and 3 I assume it's them. Then I hear the toilet flush. I ask Dennis, "Are the boys here?" "No they are at their mothers house" is his reply. "So who is flushing the toilet?" I ask. And calm as a hindu cow he says "Nobody, The house is huanted"

Since then he has reported things like Brand new light bulbs burning out when he is in the room. Tv's that turn off all by themselves, Doors that slam closed when there is only him in the house.
