A tale of being tricked by a sneaky "southern gentleman": :o:o:o

Many of you know that Old & in the Way (Stephen) and I have done some gifting and horse trading and such between the two of us in the past and I thought some of you would like to hear of his Shenanigans, being the southern gentleman that we all believe he is. ;)

Now you all know that I never trick anyone and my word is just as good as gold. ;):)

So a while back OW (we will just call him that) sent me a package and sneaked an extra knife in my package - one to which we HAD NOT agreed upon.:o

Being the nice guy I am, I completely let it slide and stayed silent about it, as is usual for me ;), and I just kindly thanked him for the package without resorting to name calling.

A few weeks back - OW tells me that he might have this old John Primble ISW doctor's knife that he thought I needed for my collection. I reminded him of his misdeeds and trickery and such from the last time and told him that I could not accept his knife (thinking I ain't fallin' for yer tricks no more !)

After that, I added some signature lines of looking for Rosewood TC Barlows, etc.

Well - it wasn't long before I get this nice PM offering up his Che Chen Rosewood TC Barlow. I am thinking about him pulling more Shenanigans and being the innocent guy I truly am, give him an answer of "Let me see if I can find one somewhere else and then we will both have one." :o

I truly believe that OW gets great delight in jerking my chain, substantially more joy from deviling me than any knife I could gift him or trade to him. He probably just thinks my stuff is completely junker knives, judging by all of those high end knives he is always posting up to "one up" me. :o;)

Now the two of us are also college sports fans, him being a Alabama Crimson Tide football fan and me being an avid Kentucky Basketball fan. We often communicate about sports and knives via PM's and he ALWAYS tells me what a inferior football team we have and me, being the nice guy I am ;), over looks it and just compliment his Crimson Tide teams. He just about broke my PM box during football season, reminding me that our team could use some Tide players and such. :o:o:o

Now let's fast forward to Basketball season and he contacts me again, suggesting to me that his Tide Basketball team is going to be great this year and will probably crush my Kentucky Wildcats. Well - we ALL KNOW how that went, and after UK put a whippin' on his Tide team (twice I believe), I get this PM that he is now a member of Big Blue Nation and he would like me to get autographs and such for him.;)

I get to feeling sorry for him and send him a PM and offer to send him a "Pursuit to Perfection" UK t-shirt, paid for by me and shipped to him, free of charge.

As usual, he sends me a counter offer and says I can send his young son the t-shirt, since he has become a fan too, BUT, I MUST accept the Che Chen Rosewood TC Barlow that he wants me to have for my collection. Me, being the good guy that I am, tell him that I would send them both a t-shirt and that I had something which I had been wanting to send him (not saying what) with the shirts and that if he could agree to that, then we "had a deal". ;)

He sends me a reply of "Deal".

I go out and get the size shirts that I really did want to send them and send him a PM on Sunday night and tell him that I will be mailing a package on Monday.

I get a reply telling me he probably can't mail the package until Tuesday because of his busy work schedule.

On Monday, I am on BF and keep noticing OW logged in most of the day, posting pics and spitin' out compliments and such, and I remember thinking " I though he said he was going to be so busy at work Monday :confused::rolleyes:

Me, being innocent and a good friend to OW, decide to go ahead and mail his package in the late afternoon. Now here is where I messed up and fell in his spider web. :o

I send him a tracking number and he waits a while and then I get a PM reply, OW telling me it might be Wednesday before he can mail my package.:confused::o

I remember that his tracking slip said Wednesday delivery and if hit me like a D9 bulldozer - I had been had. He was waitin' to see what I sent him before he mailed my package !!!:eek::o

I sent him a couple old Case swing guard lock knives and a Barlow that Glenbad had customized for me - none of them being anything special, you know.

Today I get this package and just look how he goes and "one ups" me once again. I may never get over it.

My only consolation is that young Conner is now a member of BBN South and it gives me great pleasure to think of two Bama guys wearing the BBN colors !

I have other friends, such as Paul, Duncan, Mark, and Phillll that would vouch for me and they know I would never pull any Shenanigans on OW. ;):D

Sorry for the long post, but, it needed a lot of xplainin' ! :o:o

That's quite a story Primble! This must be a bad problem here on the porch cause I've had similar dealings with Markesharp :p. He's told me that your quite generous yourself, so what goes around bones around:D

Congrats on the new knives, they're all quite beautiful and impressive!!!

Ryan

Most impressive story, and individuals involved also.

Shenanigans, the definition of: see Primble and Stephen:thumbup: Great story, great members and trickery/shenanigans involved:D

BEAUTIFUL knives:cool: a Tide fan now turned Wildcat? Primble my friend you do wield some mighty powerful influence for that conversion. Stephen...is this true:eek:

Nasty business on both sides! Y'all should be ashamed of yerselves!

Lookit that whittler!! Why, just send it over here, and forget all about it!
The shame will fade away eventually!!

Tsk, tsk!!:grumpy:

You gotta watch that Marko Ryan. ;):D He will take all of your NYKC knives if you don't keep a close eye peeled. ;):D

Thank you Glenn.

I have a feeling there might be re-buttal, but, I don't see why there should be any. :D:D:D

"Me being the innocent guy that I am" I spit Coke all over my keyboard reading that!:barf::eek:

You are a good guy Primble, I will have to admit that much, but your MSU Spartan dig at my Wolverines was uncalled for......Mr Innocent :grumpy::barf::eek:

Nice knives!

:D:D:D

I believe you do and a darn nice photograph at that:D:thumbup:

Thank you Paul, however, what I was referring to was pics of the Bama boys in their BBN attire. I have to keep it in my vault for future blackmails, just in case I need it. ;):D

:D:D:D

Marko - I did not dig your Wolverines - you double posted the GAW and I simply forgot that you were not a Spartan fan. It was a totally innocent mistake, my friend. :o

Looks like you turned that 6308 into more NYKC gold again. You could have not done that with that Scout you teared up about, so it appears the trades worked out well for everyone. ;):D:D

I think I remember that Stephen mentioned to me something about that NYKC having a broken backspring or something to that effect. :o:o:o:D

Primble I knew the reference you were making but as in all your pictures it would be the nicest leverage picture one could take;):)

Great story and wonderful knives!
I love the bone on that Dr.s can we see further pics of said knife?

Well at the end of a long week, one in which I didn't get much sleep, I came home this evening, ate an early dinner and then went to bed early (hey, what can I say, I do have the word 'old' in my username). Imagine my surprise when I wake up in the middle of the night after a few hours of much needed sleep to find this thread.:eek::eek:

I considered writing a lengthy rebuttal, but rather than doing that I've decided to rely on the good judgment that I know most of you possess to come to your own conclusions after a careful consideration of the facts. Let's examine a few details:

Now you all know that I never trick anyone and my word is just as good as gold.

Now dear readers, my friend Primble might as well have posted a 'DANGER AHEAD' sign as make the above declarations. As good as gold? Iron pyrite perhaps. ;)

So a while back OW (we will just call him that) sent me a package and sneaked an extra knife in my package - one to which we HAD NOT agreed upon.

I have no recollection of this alleged transgression, but then again, as I've already admitted, I'm getting old and my memory might be faulty. Surely my good friend would not try to take advantage of my slightly addled memory. And even if you were to assume this to be true, the statute of limitations surely would have already expired on that minor offense, and therefore shouldn't be held against me.

Being the nice guy I am, I completely let it slide and stayed silent about it, as is usual for me , and I just kindly thanked him for the package without resorting to name calling.

This statement reminds me of a time when as a child I was watching TV along with my Grandfather while a politician was making a speech. I recall my Grandfather telling me "that fella is pissing in my ear and trying to convince me it's raining". Now, I would never say that about my cherished friend, but if your ear begins to feel wet, well... :)

I notice that Primble proposes to call Paul, Duncan, Mark and Phil as character witnesses to vouch for him. I would merely remind my old friend of a truism that he posted just the other day in his GAW thread: "All I can say is one should be careful what THEY ASK FOR!"; and I would also invite them to weigh in if they cared to wade into this mire.

As for this supposed photographic evidence that he claims to possess of me in some sort of "BBN" t-shirt, well I'd just point out (and this should be obvious to everyone by now) that Primble is some sort of 'wizard' when it comes to doctoring photos, so there's no telling what kind of fake evidence he's cooked up. Think about it. How else could you explain all those amazing photos he keeps posting? Voodoo, black magic, photoshop? I don't know, but I do know that nobody's knives look that good. Nobody's!

For shame. For shame Mr. Primble. :o ;)

And then there's this...

I sent him a couple old Case swing guard lock knives and a Barlow that Glenbad had customized for me - none of them being anything special, you know.

I'll let you judge for yourself how much credibility you should ascribe to my friend's complaint after you view the following photo of the knives he sent:

2j17uoj_zpsgsyucbj1.jpg

In summation, let's do a quick examination of what are, in my mind at least, the non-disputable facts in this matter. 1) Primble sent me three amazing knives (pictured above), and in return, I sent him three somewhat decent knives (pictured in Primble's original post); 2) my friend's credibility in this matter, as evidenced by his own statements, is at best questionable; and 3) Primble clearly possesses some sort of 'magical' photography skills that he could easily use to doctor a photo of me to make it appear that I'm wearing some sort of 'BBN' shirt, whatever that is.

In the end it comes down to this: if the glove doesn't fit, you must acquit! Ladies and gentlemen, in this case the glove simply doesn't fit.

Now, as I'm still old, it's time for me to go back to bed to try to get a couple more hours of sleep. My 2nd favorite college basketball team is playing tomorrow, and I need my rest if I'm going to be able to cheer them on. Perhaps I'll find a profound apology when I get back up.

:D:D:D:p:p:p

Wow! Two incredible yarns to drink my coffee over, plus some amazing knives to gawk at. This has turned out to be an excellent morning!! Primble that Catt. is amazing!!!

Well at the end of a long week, one in which I didn't get much sleep,

Odd that you are so old and tired and all and then cannot sleep (once again ;)) and get up in the middle of the night to tell some pretty OUTLANDISH tall tales !:barf:

I slept like a rock last night, never woke up once, and to my surprise slept until after 9:00 a.m. Must have been a record for me! ;):)

I suppose my conscience was totally clear! :p

I just don't know how to answer such reckless statements ! I bet everyone feels sorry for me. :o:o:o

I know Paul will stand up for me. Duncan knows that I am a "stand up guy" and would never pull Shenanigans, but, he is probably tired from work too and he will not want to get involved in this personal attack that you started. :o:o Duncan is a fantastic guy and I was just thinking about sending him this really nice knife. ;);)

Mark likes to devil me to, so it is anyone's best guess as to what he might say. I was thinking about mailing him a really nice NYKC Barlow Monday. ;);)

Philllll is a little harder to figure out, but, I know that he has great character. I was just thinking the other day that I need to do something really nice for my Sarasota friend. ;);)

:eek::eek: Doctoring photos !!! My feelings are soooo hurt ! I spend countless hours cleaning up an old knife that somebody sends me, trying to make it look it's very best and now you guys say I am doctoring my photos!!!! :o:o:o:o

You sound like a District Attorney or something. :grumpy: That will be the straw that broke the Camel's back !:eek::eek::o Your own arguments will see you convicted of knife friend character assassination ! :grumpy:

Thank you so much for the lovely knives my friend and I doubt you slept another minute, for tossing and turning, and knowing that you had engaged in such a profound mission of knife friend character assassination ! Sweet dreams.
:o:o:grumpy:

P.S. - I still have a photo that I could use for re-buttal and closing arguments, in needed
. ;):D

Primble, you are just too kind my friend! And generous to boot! Now, if you would just go ahead and send the tracking number on that TC I would appreciate it. I know you're a busy guy but the post office is still open for another hour or so. Dunno what you're waiting for.

In closing I would just like to say that MY Friend Primble's Words are as good as Gold! He never ceases to amaze me in his Generosity his passion for traditional knives and his Superior Photograhpy Skills He has taught me so much about the latter since we have become Close Friends thanks to this great sub forum.
