Heya again y'all. While we're waiting with breathless anticipation to hear back from Gränsfors Bruks regarding my mystery axe, I have another mystery blade for ya's to ogle. It had been found in the stump of a tree near Hartley Bay, British Columbia, Canada ages ago, and it was given to me by the Fish Hatchery Manager in Hartley Bay back in 2009. Then I gave it to a friend who was instrumental in rescuing my plans to move to the West Coast from Ottawa, Canada, so, I no longer have the knife. But, I'd still be delighted in knowing WHAT it was. Here's some pics of before and after.

When I got it.

After I cleaned it up a little.

So, is it a Muela, do ya's think? (There were absolutely no stamps or markings on the blade anywhere, and I'm pretty sure Muela only etches / paints their name on their blades, so, Muela? Or something else.

Thanks again ya'all!

Cheers!

My guess would be Muela as well, definitely has the look and it would explain the lack of stamp on the blade. Cool knife!

Naw, B, it's definitely ugly. :D

It's got a neat story, though. Found in the stump of an old tree? That's very cool.

Yah, I guess it is an ugly brute. :o

Actually, the full story is even better. It was found in a partially burned stump, and the knife had obviously been in the fire since the handle nearest the blade was charred slightly. Mystery! Why would a knife be stuck into a burning stump in the middle of the bush? I don't know either, but the answer may not be one we want to know. (Maybe I should check the missing persons reports from this area from a couple decades ago.) :D

Cheers!

Neat find!
Looks most like a Muela Ranger Bowie type knife to me.

My google-fu is strong and that's the closest I could come up with.

If it's not a Muela it could be a cheap Pakistan bowie.
