Hi there
Toying with the Idea of selling my entire knife collection. I have been collecting since I was 9. Seriously collecting for over 20 years. I have a extensive collection of Black Jack, Eary Gerber, Benchmade (most pre production or 1st production) Lots of autos including one of a kind daltons etc. I would wish to sell this collection as a whole. THe estimated value would be around 40k-50k. Before I log everything on to an excel spreadsheet and make a video of this collection im curious would anyone be interested in spending this kind of coin for knives?? obviously I did a little at a time

from what I have seen, you make the most money selling it a piece at a time. 40-50 is a lot for one person to put out on a mixed collection. Don't think you'd get it. Visit Les Robertson's web site for hints on how to sell knives. He posted so good stuff on why selling a whole collection would not get you near the total value of the individual pieces.

In order to realise 40-50K you will probably have to sell the collection in pieces. If you need to sell it quickly, it will cost you about 40% of the collection's selling price. In addition there will be issues in collecting full value on your collection of autos.

Basically, someone will cut you a check for 50-60% of your collection's expected resale value, and that person will expend the time and labor to resell most of the collection 1 piece at a time.

Is the 40-50k the retail values or is that what you paid or is it what you now think they are worth. You are aware that your autos cannot be moved across state lines even if both states allow the sale of autos.

We are no longer the only people in this business. We spend about $1,000,000 a year on aftermarket knives. How can you collect for 20 years and not know about the Cutting Edge®??

Let me know if I can help. A. G. Russell

Actually the 40 to 50k would be roughly what I spent on the knives over the years. Many I know have increased in value. I was just curious. No need for the money but thinking of buying a little land up north ahhhhh. It would be hard to part with my babies though. Just a thought. Thanks

It would probably go to a dealer.

Mr. Russell would be an excellent choice. You may also want to talk to my friends at Northwest Knives and Collectibles in Salem, Oregon.

If you want to sell your BlackJack's email me. You might have something I just have to have. I have been selling a few of mine as well. I have also bought some. After having a lot of hard to find BlackJack's at this point I am after the ones I have never had and better yet never seen or heard of. That last part has not happened in a very long time.

Im thinking your drunk or not in the right state of mind.....so it might be good to send all your knives to me for safe keeping till you sober up or get out of the hospital. ( dont you have kids or a wife you could sell to get the cash ) LOL

Hey Ren, do yourself a favor and get all of your knives looked at by a knife appraisal agency or expert. Get a better idea of the value of each one and then take the time to spread sheet them with their estimated or appraised value added in. You might want to contact Bruce Voyles and check on the feasability of auctioning them off. Bruce's auctions are well known for bringing in the serious collectors.

The appraisal may cost you a pretty penny, but it could also save you many years of anguish for just making your best guess and going from there. Just my thoughts on it.
