I'm starting this thread for my friend Derek who posts mostly in Becker.
He was asking some questions about Trangias tonight, and I thought I'd post up some of the configurations I have.
Some of these, I have not yet even tested beyond the back patio, so I may be taking several of them along on the next camp out.

Anyway, the intent of the thread is for folks to show off the different ways they use a Trangia stove. I know there are a lot more than I picture below.

1) A pretty common aluminum windscreen/stand.

2) Another common aluminum stand. This one breaks down into three flat parts that stow easily.

3) Canteen cup stove. Pictured here is my Made in China spare. My Made in USA milspec version rides in my pack.

4) The Evernew titanium cross stand. Very compact and lightweight.

5) Swiss volcano stove. Here I use the simmer ring to get the stove closer to the bottom of the cup.

6) An Esbit dual-fuel set-up. Made for both Esbit tablets as well as a Trangia-style burner.

Solid post of some gear. How much would those run someone, ball park it.

Dude, I don't know. I buy stuff when I see it on sale usually. Or when I spot a good deal.
Top two are frequent fliers on fleaBay, and I think that's where I got both of them. Bought 'em from the same outfit along with a Trangia, but I don't remember which one.
You can usually find a canteen cup stove for $10, so that option is inexpensive. The US made ones run a little more. Of course, then you feel compelled to get a canteen cup, canteen, etc. :p
The Evernew ti cross runs about $10 to $12, depending on vendor.
You used to find Swiss volcano stoves all day for $10 plus shipping. Haven't looked lately.
I bought that last Esbit kit for $10 or $15 on super sale, but I think it runs about $25, and it's worth it even at that price IMO. Nice little versatile setup.

Very cool setups you got there Guyon. Thanks for posting this up, I will definitely be dropping the hammer on one now.

I made a back up hurricane cook kit from Trangia burner ($12) and new surplus Swiss Ranger Volcano kit (a pair for $20).... I used metal shears to open up the feed hole, so the burner can be inserted from the side,.... it worked well... but if I had to do it again, would have made a bent lifting wire to lower/remove the burner from the top.... I opened up the second stove to almost to half its circumference so a Sterno jelled alcohol burner could be inserted, for use as a car kit... the aluminum in the stove body is very soft..

I just got the Trangia Mini
It cost me 23 pounds sterling about $30 bucks
It has this burner and windscreen and it fits in to a pot and lid/frypan
The pot has a ridge so the base screen fits into the pot snugly, and this rim on the pot so the top of the windscreen fits on the pot to stop it slipping
Very well thought out

Unfortunately, I cannot find denatured alcahol (meths) here!!
70% rubbing alcahol does not work well, too much water
So I will try 98% drinking alcahol

Can you find gas-line antifreeze in any automotive shops? That's methyl alcohol.
Over here, the main brand name is HEET, and the yellow bottle (not the red) is what I buy.
Burns cleaner (and clearer) than anything I've tried.

Possible sources for alcohol:

1. Paint stores may carry denatured alcohol as a solvent.

2. Hardware stores, the same.

3. Gasoline stations may carry "Gas Line De-icer", which is often Methanol. This stuff combines with water in your gas tank, and allows it to be burned by your engine. If you buy a bottle of stuff that you suspect is methanol, pour out a teaspoon in a clean, empty tin can. Throw a match on it. If it burns nicely, with a faint blue flame, then it is alcohol. If it roars crazily with a yellow fireball, it isn't the right stuff.

Ethanol burns with a characteristic "booze" smell.

4. Liquor stores may carry high percentage alcohol. You are looking for at least 90% alcohol which = 180 proof. This stove fuel will be drinkable (ick) but expensive. I wouldn't drink high test grain alcohol straight.

5. Variety stores may have gas line de-icer(methanol, AKA HEET) in their automotive section.

Good luck with this search. Ask around locally, and somebody will know a source for your fuel. The Trangia burner is so well designed, it never gets old.

Anyone have the dimensions on the inner cross of the evernew stand? I'm wondering about whether it'll fit inside another alcohol burner I've got.
Mostly wondering about the width of the inner cross and it's height to the bottom of the upper pot support cross.

Thanks for the suggestion.
I will definitely look

Looks like just a smidgen over 35 mm when I eyeball it closely.

Thanks! Fantastic picture that answers my width question. How about height?

I have two of these Swedish Military stoves, thought I don't use them all that much. I find the canister fuel for my Pocket Rocket much easier to use than the liquid alcohol.
This is the set up I use when I do bring the Trangia.

Has anyone played with the optimal height from the flame. I vaguely remembering that the height of the pot above the flame has a fairly dramatic effect on boil time / efficiencey.
Personally I'm using a Whitebox Stove but finding quality meths in Singapore is proving to be a challenge.

The Caldera Cone type of alcohol stove is one of the best, lightest, most fuel efficient and realistic alcohol stove options for a backpacker in the Sierra Nevadas.

You can either buy the factory made one, or go to Youtube.com and find the directions for a homemade copy, put out by some HVAC guy.. My homemade copy for the Trek 700 works fine, but gets hot enough to discolorblacken the aluminum skin's laquer(?) coating. Otherwise, it is great.

The one I fabbed up for the Trek 900 has no issues, and works excellent.

If you have the scratch, go to the factory site and buy one from that guy who invented them. The design is so nice and refined, he deserves the mo-nay. It singlehandedly transforms the alcohol stove into a legitimate option for long distance 1 or 2 week unsupported alpine walking trips. Which means it will be fine for all less demanding users.

I got a Trangia not too long ago and used it with the Emberlit stove. It worked perfectly although you pretty much want to chunk the simmer ring for use with it unless you are going to have it 70% closed. It brought 2 cups of water to a rolling boil in just under 6 minutes. It makes a great addition to the Emberlit if you want to go with the fuel option.
