Let's see those Bourbon Street Skinners (and other non-bushcrafty fiddlebacks too)!

So, I didn't really get into fiddlebacks in the first place over any of Andy's buschraft designs -- what initially brought me to the brand was seemingly less conventional designs like the: Snubnose, Shank (to this day, the prototype was my favorite), Fighter, and Bourbon Street Skinner. While Fiddleback Forge might be known for its utilitarian, dead sexy, woods-bumming friendly knives, there is also a far smaller, darker (IMO) side of the product line for folks who like pointy, scary ;) looking knives. With the exception of the fighter and the wasp, I can proudly say that I've owned some damn fine: asps, scorpions, shanks, sneakies, and now the crowning achievement of the lot, a bourbon street skinner (in retrospect, this is a big deal for my humble collection)! While the jury *sometimes* seems to be out on above stated designs, I myself (and I'm sure some of you out there), will always have a special place in my heart for deep swedges, needle points, sinister lines, and frightening edges of these unconventional beauties.

So, with that being said, let's see some of those scrappy, bar-room brawling fiddlebacks; "friendly" designs need not apply :D!

*Duder -- that means we need pics of the fighter, since you're the only member I know of that still owns one!*

today's acquisition (to make up for the one I let get away looonnngg ago)

Hey Will, I had the Skinner description copied to my clipboard and we as going through posts. After a while, I thought I had a chance. Then BAM, Will sharked it.

You have excellent taste in knives sir -- I have to say this one was a bit of an impulse for me, but I let the above stated one go long ago and have regretted it since. Often overlooked and rare like unicorns and TT competition cutters, the skinner might have to be the official sharking HQ letter opener from here on out.

I was definitely lovin' it the other week when one was posted for the first time in a long while. Nice score will, hope you get some sweet pics up once you get it as it is definitely a blade shape I am interested in, and normally I am not too big a fan of "pointy".

oh and i like unicorns. post a pic of one if you have that too.

Forgive the shoddy photography, I don't have any decent lighting or a tent here, but here are my more nefarious FB's

Here's a shot of my three that don't really fall into the main stream mode. The Sneaky and Wasp are carried on occasion, but just can't find the right sheath for the Bourbon Street Skinner.:D

Imrahil,
How do you like the handles on the scorpions?
I always thought it would be too small in the hands.

Will,
glad you were able to pickup a skinner yesterday.....Just got mine in yesterday and it's more than what I had expected, this thing is straight out nasty.....

Sorry if this is a wet blanket of sorts, but if there was a practical application for such a knife, besides looking badass during a bar brawl, what would it be?

That knife is sick looking! It might should be called the Rihno!

For me the Bourbon Street Skinners practical application is to sit 24/7 on my work bench so I can look at it, pick it up and think just how dadgum cool it is! Hmmm.... same could be said for a couple other models, too.

It is extremely small in the hands, that is why I like it. Very nimble and super lightweight. Feels wonderful and feels like it was bred to slip in between some ribs.

Honestly, wouldn't do a bad job skinning game. Wouldn't be my first choice, that would be the KPH or some KOA's, but it wouldn't do bad work at it either.

Sorry, but what are KOA's?

Knives of Alaska. Probably better ones out there but they have been my dedicated skinners for a long time and worked pretty dang good for me. Really appreciated the D2 on a busy weekend, trapped 35 hogs over the week and spent pretty much all day Saturday cleaning them. Had a buddy helping me with his trusty Buck 110. Almost seemed like he spent as much time sharpening his knife as he did cleaning pigs.

Ahh. I should have been able to figure that out. I picked up my first Fiddleback not to long ago and have had tunnel vision ever since. :-)
