I was thinking about how this is my "anniversary" month, and I was dying to read my first posts on the forum. So I looked them up, and here they are to the best of my knowledge.

I believe this is my very first post:

Hmmm...The Cheapest I carried was probably when I carried around a promotional my dad got from a mechanic. My most loved cheap knife was a 20 dollar Tinker. Most expensive were the Cybertools, and the best value was my 40 dollar Gerber AR. T.Erdelyi...is that your real name or are you a Ramones fan? Their old drummer was Tommy Erdelyi...sorry...I'm one-track minded....

Other than the Ramones drummer thing that doesn't seem very odd/funny, but look at a post from a while later....(a thread I started)

Does anyone here have the Gerber 3.25 AR Partially Serrated? Should I go for it, or should I get the other AR?

Which one do you think:

Model 1: http://www.gerberblades.com/product....php?model=8461

Model 2:http://www.gerberblades.com/product....php?model=5849

I have strong reasons against the Model 2: 1: The grade of stainless isn't corrosion resistant compared to model 1's 316 surgical, I hate liner locks, the handle is plated to get the champagne color, and I don't like the handle shape. But something in me still wants it over the model 1. You decide...it could help

I didn't have the Gerber yet, but in an EARLIER POST I claimed it was a great value. That's how convinced I was that Gerber was the mecca of knives. I assumed it was a great value because it was shiny and only $40...

My absolute favorite part is that when DaveH tried to talk some sense into me and push me out of the bullet's path, I shot him down with easily the lamest post I've ever made.

DaveH said:
OK, maybe I'll ask, why do want a Gerber?
NeedleRemorse said:
Why wouldn't I want a Gerber? They're beautiful knives. I saw these two, and like them both, but I'm leaning toward the Model 1.

....

:D

Sorry DaveH :o ....I guess I wasn't planning on staying around for very long.

I have a Buck Titanium Locking folder with all original packing, it has allen screw construction and a belt clip. Someone told me it was a Probis contract knife.I would be grateful for any available info on background and possible value.

Most of my fist posts were informational questions or informational posts, that was all before I met the W&C Wackos.

Good Morning BF People,
I just wanted say hello. Back in the late 70’s I fished a copy of AG Russell’s “Cutting Edge” out of a trashcan. I never knew the world of custom knives even existed. After thumbing through the catalog my fate was sealed. I am now out of control when it comes to knives. I have lurked around here for sometime and figured it was time to sign on. I can’t begin to tell you how much knowledge I have gained from you people, thank you, thank you.

Here's mine from dec 02 1999 about Anza knives:
( Yeesh I'v been here 5 years?)
-------------------------------------

I purchased a small 2 1/4 inch one
about 3 years ago for $20. It is comfortable
in the hand, but wasn't particularly
sharp.

I used it to trim sod for a couple of days,
and got rust spotted pretty quickly, which
was to be expected. When I went to resharpen
I found the edge angle pretty steep, about 30
degrees. With such a small blade and thick stock, should be no surprise.

I re-profiled it to about 25 and it cuts much better. Decent enough value, but once you
get into the $40 or $50 range, You have
a lot more choices.

Wow, Its just been a little over two years for me-- Seems like a lot longer. I guess a lot can happen in two years. I'm living a completely different life than I did then. Anyway, here's my first post, about a balisong I made....

Hi

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello balli-lovers! I've been a member of this forum for a while, but this is my first post. I'm a little anti-social, but I love to see whats going on in the bali world!

I've been into balisongs for awhile now but I could never afford the higher quality ones I wanted. So, I went ahead and made one of my own: Here, check it out!

Sorry about the poor quality pics, but I'm a bit of a computer idiot.

Anyway, I call it the Cuttlefish of Cthulhu! The blade used to be a bastard file, and the handles aluminum barstock. The pins and pivots are 3/16 inch brass rods. I milled the handles out on a table saw, and did the decorations with a dremel tool and a file. It's a little rough, but it does the trick and the blade holds a razor edge-- and it has already taken quite a beating!

Well, besides showing off the bali I made, I also had brainstorm and wanted to get your input on the idea-- so check out my double bladed bali post.

This from Jan of '03 (Hmmm...thought I've been here longer)

It happened so long ago, I think I've blocked it from my memory, but when I was about 14-15, I had a small collection of knives. From what I can remember, there were a couple sweet Remington folders, a Russell type fixed blade skinner, a Case fixed bowie, and an older aviators survival knife. Not worth a fortune, but had alot of sentimental value. Well anyways, mom (as moms do) forced me to clean my room. I think those knives must have been in a paper bag or something, cause I threw away a bunch of stuff, and never saw them again.

I guess I've spent the rest of my years since then trying to find those knives again, but it's not the same.

Oh yeah, before I knew how to use a buffing grinder properly, I messed up the handles on a few sweet older knives trying to "Clean them up".

Foolish youth....

Yeah, so I never replaced those knives, other than the pilot's survival knife. And 2 1/2 years later, I'm still stupid...

Micarta Questions

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What are the differences between paper and linen Micarta? Which do you prefer and why? Any tips on working with it would be appreciated.
Thanks! Tom

Thanks for the help, Cougar! :)

This was the first thread I started after finding this site. It was shortly after I moved here and I didn't know much about knives:

Are you all regular visitors here?

Hi, I'm Ashes. I just registered here and was wondering if there were "regulars" and if this place is pretty busy? I'd like to find somewhere where I can go to ask questions without feeling dumb... I'm new but I'm learning!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I received two pages of really helpful and friendly replies. I've been addicted ever since! :D

My first post (actually, first 100 or so) disappeared when the board crashed (March '04) and everybody got reverted back a month. I had to re-register.

IIRC, it was a normal "Hi, I'm new here and need advice on which knife to get" newbie post. I was looking for a quality EDC to replace my Kershaw Leek, and after reccomendations, I'd narrowed it down to a BM921 Switchback or a Camillus Dominator. I ended up getting a Woodard Fer De Lance auto, after learning that I can purchase and carry autos in Arizona. Never did buy either the 921 or the Dominator.

This is my first post after re-registering.

I've been here awhile. I leave to go eat, go to work, and even sleep sometimes, but I always come back here. My wife thinks I spend too much time here at BladeForums, but I don't, really...Only about 6-7 hours total each day...

...You were pretty much straight to the point! :p

Presto push button

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Am looking for approximate value of a G.Schrade Presto push button switchblade which is in good condition.

That was my first post. My dad had passed away and I had gotten several of his knives...I don't think I ever really got an answer :(

I believe this one was. Though I may be mistaken.

Tristram, I believe that FisherK is justified in his fear of certain terrorist factions.

"assuming that Muslims are not the potential recruits of a paranoid fantasy like 'Jihadistan'", I'm not sure about this jihadistan thing, but I am sure that muslims are recruited for said terrorist factions.

As for TLM what exactly are you whining about?

You were saying that the US didnt do enough to stop the advance of communism in Europe. But umm dude why should it even have been our problem I think it was enough that we saved you from hitler. Besides short of declaring open war the US did pretty much everything it could to stop Stallin.

Opinions on Russelll Damascus
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've been carefully eyeing the AG Russell 340 Damascus Folder and was wondering if anyone had experience with this knife. Looks like it's forged in Seki, Japan the same place the SOG Trident blade is made. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Sorry about your Dad, I bet if ya posted this in the Schrade forum now you'd probably get an answer now.

This seems to be my first post, it was in a favorite damascus pattern thread:

Thanks T. Erdelyi, I did write to the Schrade Company right after that post and got a reply. I've also since found information in Parker & Voyles Collector Pocket Knives book. I do frequent the Schrade forum here-those guys really know their stuff! ;)
