Everyone knows that "hard use folder" is the new catch phrase. 3/16" stock, 1/4" pivots, super steels that can slice atoms all day and still push cut toilet paper. They are big, black, and can make a grown man cry in fear. :)

But, once, hard use folders were barlows, trappers, cattle knives, and all the rest. No need for thick and huge, thin was in. These knives founded countries, settled frontiers, got dirty and got used.

So gentlemen and ladies, let's see those traditional knives as they were meant to be, used! No glamour shots here, just knives dirty, bloody, or working hard.

Forget hard use knives, that's one hard use hand!
Holy blisters, Batman!

I agree!!! I've been there and done that. Had to dig a trench for 8hrs one day back in my youth---never forgot my gloves from that day forward!!!

Ouch! Yep gloves for sure. Makes all the difference in the world after a few hours of digging, etc. Great action photo!

Haven't used it hard yet - but I think hard use is what it's for. (Relax - I'll not abuse it! :) )

Here are two knives I use for heavy chores.

Schrade Fire & Ice by GEC in 2007 based on GEC's 73 pattern

GEC #79 Montana Workhorse Whittler. It looks freshly sanded because I dropped it in some JB Weld and had to sand it off.

Not an action shot, but this one sits on my workbench and get all the rough and dirty jobs.

I've owned this scout 5 times longer than any other knife I own, and it's done 10 times more work. Still going . . .

Yeah, I didn't want to spend the $17 on decent gloves, and didn't want to buy cheap gloves because they just aren't comfortable. So, on day one I didn't use gloves. On day two I went to town and spent the stupid $17. But the trees are down and the mulch is down, so it's all good. :)

Here's a few of my "Hard Workers"

My #56 Dogleg in Stag--stout with great working blades...

My treasured Clip Point Barlow with Gabon Ebony covers---scraped gaskets, opened qwikrete bags, zip ties, been immersed in grease and oil---not intentionally :p

My most valued of all the knives I own and my oldest---I bought it in 1970, yep, I'm old :o I can't even begin to described what I put this CASE 62087 2 blade jack through back in my youth.

I may be hovering on the traditional line with my old Vic Champ, but it doesn't have any titanium, carbon fiber, thumb studs, blade locks,or holes in the blade & it's around 30 years old and retired now so no blood & guts pics.(sorry.;))
It now rests on the end table next to my recliner for the occasional light duty job,but my old Vic. Champ served me well for about 10 years when I was a mechanic in the Marines.
It's been all over the States,Europe & Asia and been drenched in diesel fuel,JP4,engine oil & hydraulic fluid, not to mention all the grease & grime associated with mechin' & has the scars to show for it.
Long live the Champ.

This thing is a beast. The spring is so stout the gent who sold it to me looked for the lock when trying to close it.

Please excuse the obvious diqualifications keeping this from being truely "tradiotional". I just wanted to jump on the opportunity to show off my favorite EDC Case Knife that I put through HELL daily!
