Lets see your machete sheaths - please :)

Hi Guys,

My 1311 has arrived and I am going to make a leather sheath for it. I have a bark river machete sheath that is well made that I could use as my design.

I was wondering what other designs are out there and what people really like when it comes to attachment/mounting options..

Please post thought and pics of you sheaths and experiences.

Check out some of the sheaths that WildmanH has put together for machete's, he's done some interesting rigs. I've seen pics posted so a search ought to get you to them quickly. :)
 
I'm a land surveyor and a machete (nicknamed "knife") is a primary tool for me since I have to deal with brush of all types. I have 2; I use a bolo the most, but on lighter stuff I use an original 24" Collins I bought with a beautifully worked and fringed leather sheath.

I made my own sheath out of industrial belting material about 5/64". I wear it on my belt on the opposite side, but if I'm in a hurry the right side is OK too. It's tougher than heck and the blade slides in and out very easily. I need that since by the time the knife is sliding down the sheath, I'm already doing something else. Leather was too "sticky" & I'd be cutting through nylon eventually. My knifes are always scary sharp. I couldn't imagine having to button or snap a blade in a sheath.

The sheath design is a straight in type, and I used a 1/2" strip of belting between the front and back when I folded it over (making 3 layers total) and copper rivets; pretty simple. It's white since that's the color that was laying around at the surplus place (it cost a buck), but it's possible to find other colors. I gotta admit it doesn't look very attractive but it sure works slick and it's taken a lot of abuse. The white keeps it in sight when things get thick; I've lost 2 knives in the brush when I've gotten busy.

I don't know if this is any help or not; I suppose it depends on how much you use it and for what.

That will get them clothed and I plan to do some other ones with a different mounting options..
